Hi guys,
Real newbie question for you. I haven't owned a good stereo or sound source for over a decade (last one was a klipsh pro media 5.1 speaker set), so I'm SOOOO out of the loop on modern technology, but I'm going to get something half decent going here. Maybe not decent, but half decent at least.
Details:
1. I don't have cable TV. All my TV watching is from files played on my PC with my TV connected as a second monitor or from a DVD player
2. I am going to buy a plasma TV and want to set it up with good sound system that can ALSO play my CDs
3. So these speakers would have to be able to play Computer Audio, DVD Audio and CD audio (which I can play through the DVD player so I won't mention CD audio as a separate requirement again)
4. I am looking to spend around 200-300 dollars. My place is not big, and I only need it to fill my living room. If I need to play music in any other room from my living room computer, I'd use some sort of portable USB speaker like this (http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/veho-veho-wireless-portable-speaker-vss-002w-blk-vss-002w-blk/10221792.aspx?path=ddf21a7a0cc37322f79fdf5fcc8e8642en02)
5. I am expecting to get 2.1 speakers (wired or wireless), although if there are cheap but good WIRELESS 5.1 speakers, I might consider that as well (I don't want to connect 5 speakers around my living room using wires).
6. I don't know if I'd need to get a receiver that accepts inputs from the DVD, TV and PC or if I'd buy some sort of signal selector that allows me to switch the input to the speakers from among the three types of input (thus bypassing the need for a receiver)
7. Everything should still add up to $200-$300 (excluding the TV and DVD player)
8. Do you guys have any advice EITHER on specific models or on specific types of setups? For example, I don't know if these new speaker bars I see for TVs can also accept PC and DVD inputs (with an input selector of some sort, maybe?)
9. I don't have a lot of floor space, so I don't want a bunch of tower speakers. Ideally, they'd either be (wired or wireless) speakers that could sit on my TV bench along with my TV or else wall mountable but wireless for a tidy appearance.
10. If this speaker setup also allowed me to play music from USBs, bluetooth phones, etc., that would be a neat bonus!
Any advice is a beginning. I am starting from nearly 0 knowledge, but I'm pretty logical.
Any help? Thanks in advance,
Mud
