Is there a network media streamer that can playback via FTP?

Is there currently ANY network media player that can handle streaming playback from an FTP server source/address (outside home network). I have a website host provider that comes with about 100GB of online storage. I have an FTP account set up with them and store some basic files (music, documents, photos, etc.). It made me wonder that with SO many network media streamers out there, if there is any way of getting one of them to stream a video file over the internet from my ftp account by simply putting in the username and password somewhere within the media players settings.

I see some that can act as an FTP server so files on its internal hard drive can be accessed outside the home, but I was wondering the other way around; the media player access files outside the network. I was thinking of this mainly as a better way to store my video files, but still be able to easily play them back at home if needed. Any suggestions?

FTP is its own protocol and never used for media streaming. Since there is NFS/SMB already there is no want for it.

I have a few iOS apps that stream via FTP. I am not sure of the technical details but NFS and SMS just serve to get access to network shares. FTP can do the same thing. For example, on OSX RBrowser will behave very much like Windows Explorer but using either FTP or SFTP.
