New Logitech Harmony Touch - Page 6

I have an 880 and the volume buttons no longer work. I am looking for a replacement and came across this. I am very concerned about not having the skip function buttons. I watch almost all of my TV via DVR and use the skip buttons religiously. Can you program the remote to put the skip buttons on the touch screen?
I would assume you could do that...or you could possibly give up fast forward and rewind and program those buttons for skip functions. If someone has this remote and you can't, please correct me.

Almost certainly. I was able to put those functions from my BDP on the touch screen. No learning by the remote was involved. Very simple to do.

If your DVR's original remote supports those functions, you should be able to place them on the touch screen. Unfortunately, my antique Comcast DVR apparently does not support those functions, so in my case I have not been able to do that.

The "gestures" feature of the Touch are designed for the skip forward and skip back buttons. Generally, a swipe right or swipe left issues these commands. Alternatively they can be assigned to soft buttons on the screen.

This may be a dumb question. I have never owned a harmony remote. I have had many urc remotes. Can the harmony remote learn commands directly from other remotes like the urc remotes do?

Yes they can.

I got the Harmony Touch today and will retire my trusty 880. The Touch is different and takes some getting use to, but over all I think I will be happy with it
Right now I am trying to figure out if and how you can put the list of devices in a different order. I did a search, so if this has been asked and answered I apologize.

How can I get rid of this slight delay??? It is killing me! Is there another IR receiver and harmony config for the touch that will make things instantaneous? Removing all delays still doesn't make it as responsive as the original VISTA MCE remote from amazon! I'll buy anything that will help. Talk about your HTPC WMC setups guys.
I probably have the same VISTA MCE remote as you. WMC response is instantaneous with all my Xsight and JP1 remotes over both IR and RF. I have a few harmonys in the closet I can try, but don't have a Touch. Have you considered using a smartphone app? Ceton companion and Hippo Remote work beautifully.

Everything I use is instantaneous, except for the Harmony Touch. I noticed the slight delay controlling other components with the Touch, so it may not be WMC specific.

I originally used hipporemote exclusively, but I've learned the long way that hard buttons are better, because you dont have to look down. I thought I could consolidate to one remote for everything with the Touch, but there are proving to be too many compromises.

Just got a Best Buy premier advertisement in the mail that has the Harmony Touch at $50 off .. but don't see a sale date/time and it doesn't match the website ... odd ?? confused.gif

It's been a long time since I've been around, awesome to see you are still around making the icons!

Looks like I'm not the only one with the delay problem, as it has been documented for a variety of harmony remotes:

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=76545

I can't believe you guys are ok with this. My wife and I noticed it immediately, and apparently there is no resolution. It really sucks, because I'm going to return the touch, and there's no viable alternative on the market.

I had the same problem with my Harmony one and my XBMC htpc.

I have used at least 10 Harmony remotes in the past, and had heard many times about the delay, and argued with many people
that there was NO delay with the Harmony....and then it happened to me. Trust me, I was not 'OK' with this at all. (and adjusting
delays did not help at all)

Luckily, there IS a resolution for this problem. Let me see if I can find my old posts on how to fix it.....its probably been close to
2 years since it happened, but I am sure I can get it straightened out for you.

Im going to go search a bit and will be back....dont panic and return anything just yet!

Heres the thread:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=76545&page=6&highlight=harmony

Post #60 is where I solved mine. Heres what I posted back then:

"I had the opposite experience.
Setting it to keyboard lagged, to remote doesnt.

To further the mystery, I have had many many harmony remotes and never ever had any noticeable lag until changing out my Harmony 700 for a Harmony One tonight. (This is the second 'One' I have owned)
The 700 went through all the menus very quick, as quick as I can keep hitting the up or down buttons. Tonight I got a new 'One' and choose 'replace remote' in the harmony software and sure enough there was an unacceptable lag.
I tried changing every delay and repeat I could find but none worked.

I then added a Microsoft Remote as another device, added it to my WATCH XBMC activity and mapped my direction keys to use the Microsoft Remote instead of Microsoft Keyboard and now the menus works as fast as can be.

Very strange. Also strange that I see no lag in any of my other activities, only in the xbmc menu until making the above change. "

Hi Forum Members. I'm working on a new set of Activity Icons for the new remote and would love to hear some feedback from users like yourselves. Don't want to bog down this thread so I started one at http://www.avsforum.com/t/1438254/activity-icons-for-the-new-harmony-touch-remote
Look forward to your responses [if any smile.gif ]
Cheers, RC

I received the ad also. It is dated 11-8-12 to 12-24-12. I took the ad to Best Buy to buy my first Harmony remote. I've always wanted one but I felt they were too expensive. Anyway it was a good thing I took the ad with me that clearly listed the Harmony touch for 199.99 because the salespeople didn't believe me since all they had in their system was 249.99. With that advertisement was also a coupon for triple rewards point and a 5.00 rewards coupon. So I purchased the Touch for 194.99 and got almost 600 rewards points. So far so good with the remote. I had a problem with some of the activities not working as they should but I was able to resolve most of them. The main issue is switching the inputs on the TV when I switch from playing movies through my Blu-ray to watching TV on my cable box. But I am impressed and wish I had bought one sooner.

I've presently using a Harmony One and really enjoy it but we just built a new bonus room and I'm outfitting it with new A/V gear and the one thing that everyone agreed on was getting another "fancy" remote. I like the idea of the Touch but I don't know whether I'll like it. First of all Logitech touts being able to add all the channels as icons on the remote but I have them on my One (not as many obviously) and never use it. I presently use a Directv HR24-100 and my most use commands are bringing up the guid and scrolling through it, selecting from the guide, bringing up the DVR list, scrolling through it and selecting a program. I'm assuming I could do all that with the touch screen?

When the remote goes to sleep what screen does it wake up to? Does it stay on the screen it was on or goes to a soft button screen? I guess I'm a bit confused on the screen and what's available to it. I looked at a few videos and it seem that most go to great lengths to show you the channel buttons but very little about what shows up on the screen otherwise.

I'll take a shot at your questions. I still have mixed feelings about the favorite channel icons. I like having all 50 on one screen you can scroll through via the touch screen, but I don't like being limited to 50 as I had become accustomed to adding as many as I wanted on the One and 880 by adding additional activities. Adding more icons with the additional activity work around on those remotes required several additional button presses, so I'm getting used to using the Guide button to find and select the channels I don't have as a Favorite icon. I'm less dissatisfied with the Touch's limitation of 50 favorites icons than I was initially, but I wish it were possible to add more.

The Guide and DVR menus are accessed via hard buttons on the Touch. Those menus themselves are not displayed on the Touch, but the on-screen menus on the display are easily and quickly scrolled via the Touch's hard buttons. Those menus can certainly be accessed via the touch screen by selecting the DVR device in the activity but neither are listed on the touch screen's options under my activities. Perhaps they could be added, but I don't know why one would have a desire to do that. (I don't have Directv but have Comcast.)

When the Touch wakes up, it displays the same screen which was displayed when it went to sleep. Since the Touch awakens via a touch to the screen rather than via movement, it is far too easy to send an unwanted command when carelessly picking up the remote as I tend to do since I usually leave the remote lying on the couch. This is by far the most annoying aspect of the Touch IMHO. To minimize that problem, I find it best for me to return the touch screen to the current activity screen. Admittedly, a better solution would be for me not to leave the Touch where I might accidentally touch the screen.

Thanks Tom! You did answer some of the questions I had about the Touch. I suppose I need to go somewhere like Best Buy and actually see it in person. Hopefully they'll have one out to play with.

The Best Buy in my area has what I believe was a dummy version of the remote displayed so you can see how it looks and feel. Also if you are a Rewardzone Premier Silver member you can get the touch for 199.99.

I found a problem with the touch with 2 TV viewing activities. I had one activity that would turn on my HDTV, my Denon receiver and the Comcast cable box so I can watch TV with my surround sound. I have a second activity that turns on only the TV and cable box. I prefer to watch TV with the surround system and my wife doesn't. Anyway when I choose a favorite channel the receiver would turn off. Even if I manually choose a channel on the remote my receiver would turn off. I called Logitech and was on the phone quite a long time trying to figure it out. The service rep was great. He figured out that changing TV channels can only be associated with one “Watching TV” activity. In my situation it was the Watching TV activity that does not include the receiver so the remote shuts the receiver down. The service rep said that he was not aware of that issue and he spoke to other service reps that also were not aware. He said he is going to bring it to the attention of Logitech and maybe it will be resolved in a firmware update.

If you are happy with the H1 then I would suggest that your get a second one. This should result in complete satisfaction from everyone. I have not used the Touch, but seen it in the stores and read lots of posts about it. There are still some software/firmware issues that will hopefully be resolved, but there are also some physical design weaknesses that cannot be resolved. They are not show stoppers but inconveniences that may or may not result in your disappointment or regret with it.

There is a good reason for that, the Harmony One i returned required two hands to get to the touchscreen, as it was way at the top, so i am back to the good old SST-659.

This one resembles the notorious 659 by using tactile buttons one can memorize and use in perfect darkness.

I may give it a try once i waste all my 659, to me it is the AK47 of remotes, i can repair one in minutes using cannibalized
parts from broken ones on ebay.

I am a silver premier member. I do not see where I can pick up the remote for $199. Did you get an email, is it online. Just picked up one of these for full price, would love to get it for the discount.

Thanks!

Best Buy sent me an ad booklet a couple of weeks ago with a lot of deals for Silver Premier members. It also included a $5 reward coupon and a triple rewards coupon. So I actually paid $195 and got almost 600 reward points. The sale people at Best Buy was not aware of the offer. But when they put in my rewards number $50 was deducted from the price. According to the ad the offer is good until Dec. 24. I also took the booklet with me but that didn't make a difference because you have to be done at the register. See the scan I took of the ad.

$130 NIB ebay or amazon for a product released in 2003, not bad eh?
I have 10 of these, most i got $10-25 broken, by now i know how to pop them open and
interchange anything, even soldered the mini-USB board on. The other day the girls spilled
juice inside one, no problemo, opened, washed everything, wiped board with alcohol, like new
again. No chargers and batteries that go bad, batteries last easily 6 months with daily use.
I am 6'4" but still Harmony One needed two hands to operate.
I can see how the media buttons on top will make this remote more functional, ie one-handed
operable for browsing on Roku 2 or any similar device in the post-cable/sat-co era.

Just a quick comment on this, my ideal harmony would be a 620/670 with a row of color buttons, hard list/dvr and live buttons (like the 300), a tilt sensor for the backlight and no artificially low device limits. I'm fine with the monchrome lcd. Bonus for a slide out qwerty like the 800.
