A whole new.. confusing world!

Hello!

I am a new poster but I read here quite often. I for some reason never post in any forums since any comment I want to make is usually already made!

Anyways, I am finally in the business of purchasing a new TV and have been wanting to settle on a plasma screen based off what I have seen. I lived with my brother for about a year and was spoiled by his fancy plasma TV (one of those Kuro TV's that is supposed to be amazing). Now whenever I watch anything on a LCD or "cheap" TV I can notice a difference in picture quality.

I need help though, I have been trying to research myself what a good TV would be to get and a lot of people are suggesting the various Panasonic TV's. My knowledge of Plasma TV's though is very.. minuscule, however lol. Infact, I am still kind of afraid of some of the things I have heard and read. For example, burn-in would scare the heck out of me! So any help would be appreciated in setting me and anyone else that might be confused towards the right direction!

What I am looking for is this:

Screen size: 45-55 (50 would be prefect though)
Type: Plasma (preferred but maybe you guys have a better idea?)
Features:
I don't need any fancy features. I am not interested in 3D technology, and plan to work everything through a HTPC that I will be setting up (Xbox360 with WMC for now). I don't have much knowledge of calibrating TV's but that is something I might want to do for some awesome quality!

Living Area:
Will be in a medium living room with some moderate light coming from outside or from nearby lights. I have no problem turning off lights and plan on getting blinds for windows to cut out the light, but would like to have some lights on while watching TV without it looking horrible! tongue.gif

Price: I would *LIKE* to keep it around $1,000 but can be swayed to go higher if needed

Hopefully you guys (the experts!tongue.gif) can help me out and settle any.. scares.. I could have of dropping a bit of money on this! Thanks smile.gif

Visit Cnet's web site & read some the reviews of their 2012 panels - should give you a bit more insight into the pros & cons of various models.

They also several handy "summaries" that list things like their Top Bargain panels, and Best Picture - even have one that lists Matte Screen panels.

This should enable you to cut down the number of models you are truly interested in. Then spend a bit of time reading Owner's posts for those, and hopefully you'll end up with only a few bothersome decision points....

Best of luck -

OR, you can simply run out & buy a Panasonic 50ST50, and just enjoy watching tv..... wink.gif
