What is real difference between Sony XBR HX 909 vs 929 vx 950 panels?

Hi all,

I try to understand what's real differences between those 3 Sony XBR in past 3 years?
I don't care about internet apps (Smart TV) and sound.
I care about Picture Quality for 24 hz and 60 hz and 120 hz if supported to feed from HTPC over HDMI.
I can't find any trusted source about number of zones in ether one set.
Is it the same LCD panel from 909 in 929 and 950?
I'm looking for 3 modes "cinema" , "game" and "photo".
Yes, "cinema" with LD and at 24P, while "game" and "photo" at 60 P and without LD.
I think that even without LD full / direct LED would deliver much better results for "game" and "photo" over edge-LED

Would you help me with facts for this matter? pls
Any calibrations results are very welcome.

There has been a bit of confusion because in one review (Engadget.com) it was stated that the HX950 has 196 zones. I am pretty shure that this is nonsense, especially after the 55HX950 count. There is not much difference in the number of dimming zones in the HX909/HX929/HX950.

Two owners have confirmed that the 55HX950 has 105 zones, 55HX929 has also 105 zones (you will find that number all over the internet).

52HX909 has 96 zones, you will find that number in the ChadB HX929 review, it comes from Display Veteran who is a sony employee, probably a engineer wink.gif

thanks a lot for so good reply.
So far looks like 950 has no real advantage over 929 that has a slight over 909.
However, 909 isn't available any more, while 929 is
would it be right to get 929 for less while its available over new labeled 950?

Yes, the best would be see calibration results for both 929 and 950 to know real deference in PQ.

what do you think?

They say that 2D on the HX950 is the same, HX950: only slight improvement in 3D performance, so if you don't care about 3D you might as well buy a HX929.

Who are they? I've seen some user reports that say there are some improvements over all. They may not be dramatic but improvements none the less.

Actually only a professional side by side comparison would be accurate. Those improvements reports you talk about might be...not accurate smile.gif
There is virtually no improvement in 2D performance when compairing HX909 with HX929, i do not believe that 2D performance improved on the HX950.

how come HX850 has better native contrast over XBR 909/929/950 ?

So are prospective buyers suppose to believe your opinion over those that have actually owned both sets or even own the current hx950? You're putting forth opinions to possible buyers without any real world experience.
