AVR sound modes for older consoles...

I have a NES, SNES, Sega Saturn, ps1, Neo Geo CD, dream cast etc on my main HT. All of them, other than the NES output audio via standard stereo RCA jacks. Some of this audio, though, is optimized for old school surround tech like DPL.

Is there any mode I can put my denon 2313 in that will play standard 2 channel stereo on games that aren't designed to work with surround systems....but will use surround speakers when the game is designed to use them? Or am I gonna have to change the setting for each individual game?

Darklord - Its a default signature that cell phone makers append to any email an owner sends and probably through forum apps as well, though this is the first time I have seen it. It can be deleted or changed to the user's name though, so not permanent.

Jekbrown - If you want pure stereo, then you could just program a universal remote to swap it or just assign it directly to the input in the Denon. However, doing so would mean if a game had surround then it would be forced into stereo. Its very much a personal taste, so I would recommend experimenting. I typically force stereo full time unless a game takes advantage of the surround. You can force emulated of course on your Denon but it can sometimes be difficult to hear voices, though most of your systems wont be playing back voices anyway.

LOL dark, you must be an iPhone man. If so, I sincerely apologize!

I thought about forcing stereo all the time. Truth be told, on the older systems its rare for a games audio to be designed for DPL / "Dolby surround".

Another consideration is that my front L/R speakers are quite a ways apart...much further than would have been normal in the 80s/90s when these games were made. Maybe if I use DPL2, it will use the center speaker enough to 'fill' the sound stage? My speakers sit outside a 61" Sammy. There is probably 6' between the l and r...
