You can do better for the money, unless WAF requires a 4" wide speaker.
The rears don't even have tweeters
40w 87db towers are not going to be capable of much volume
The center had 4 mid drivers making it very wide and killing any chance of off axis dispersion
The center is pretty good. I've got no issues with it.
I would be using 4 NS-F310's and 4 NS-B310's. F310's for front and rears, B310s for front and rear presence.
I've been looking for better for less but haven't found any.
I would like to have all 9 speakers from the same series so this limits my selection.

What 8 speaker combo would you go with for under $2000(assuming I keep the center) $2300 if I don't?
If you already have the center and it makes you happy then I would stick with what you have. I like Yamaha stuff. My main beef w/ these--going purely off specs and since you asked for opinions-- is this spec: 40w 87db. It indicates to me that they will be strained at higher volumes, due to the small drivers.
I've found the Andrew Jones Pioneers sound exceptionally good for the money. I've put together a 7 pc setup for $525 with 2 floor stinging 52's, a c22 center, 2 BS22 highs and Fluance bipolar rears. They have a different aesthetic than what you are going for here, but way under $2k.

The center will go louder than it needs too and sounds good doing it, shouldn't the towers be roughly the same overall? Edited by brwsaw - 10/2/12 at 12:53pm
