Does samsung update its models every year?

I've been slowly saving for a UN65ES8000 because it'll perfectly fit into a custom built-in that came with the house - by the time I'll have the cash to blow on the set it'll be dec/jan. At that point would it be worth it waiting for whatever gets announced at CES2012?

I'm hoping we get more models with ultra thin bezels - the opening I have to fill is 59" by 34.75.

Best regards,
M

Samsung model cycles usually refresh around late march to mid-april, but 65" models usually don't appear until at least mid-summer.

Don't they announce new sets at CES though?

As much as I like the ES8000 line I hope they make some improvements to the black levels and uniformity

They announce new models at CES in january. Those sets don't actually come out until march or april. Traditionally, their 65" models are out later than 55"/60" counterparts, hence my estimation of late summer on the arrival of a "65FS8000."

As far as the uniformity/other issues go, I wouldn't hold my breath on a 2013 equivalent being an improvement - Samsung's LED lineup in general is known for its issues, even moreso in their 65" models. They usually suffer from poor uniformity, panel issues, banding, etc. The 65" 8000 models have suffered from these issues for the past three years (UN65C8000, UN65D8000, UN65ES8000).

I wonder if I should look at the 60" model then. I just don't want to have a huge gap in the opening I'm looking to fill around the set.

Not trying to kill your hopes and dreams, but black levels really haven't been making giant leaps. Let's put it this way, the flagship from 2010 had a black level of .05 and this years flagship model has a black level of .04. It really isn't much of a change to say the least.

I'm just saying, buy when you can and don't keep on waiting for that future product to come out that will solve all issues. We've all been waiting for those LCD's to come and they never have arrived. The days of flawless TV's sorta ended with the death of the CRT. Even the new OLED displays still have their own fun uniformity issues and black issues. tongue.gif

You're right ...

Waiting is never really the answer.

I'm coming off a 4 year old Panasonic plasma I bought from Costco on clearance th50pz85u so I think most models would be an upgrade for me.
