Simply put, they will out live some of us. Last but not least, you can fix this stuff if you do trash it.

I certainly feel a lot better about building these speakers then the 2k I just spent on a new projector.

Just added some new photos in the second post with the front baffles added and painted.

Also of the other speaker sets I built over the weekend.

Gotcha.

I am putting the speakon connectors in today. Then it's just waiting for the Deltalite's, crossover components, and mounting hardware from Erich. Parts-express was out of the Deltalites.

I just got the Deltalites and will rush to get them packed and shipped out today.

yes all, don't get me wrong, if the performance is there- as it seems to be- it could/will be, no doubt, a veritable bargain, and I have no problem whatsoever paying a premium for better performance.

Specs would be nice and Erich, if you have the chance for any more info on the 10" model that would be fantastic...does it happen to utilize this driver, it looks like a great performer at this price: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=295-030

Every bit of savings helps when you need ELEVEN speakers, lol, and I would bet there's plenty of output in those units for most rooms.

thanks!

It actually uses an Eminence woofer. I'll have more information posted on it this weekend and ready for ordering. But I only asked for 10 flat packs to be made at first. Obviously a lot more will be coming, but these first 10 will go pretty fast.

I'm drooling! I need some of those kits!
Erich just made speaker building so easy, a caveman can do it. tongue.gif

If these flat packs existed a year ago, I wouldn't have invested so much $$$$ in tools.

Looking forward to the finished product.

Got everything from Erich I need now. Going to try and finish up the crossovers today. Need to get something to line the insides with and then we are good to go.
Try to keep them out of the rain when you deliver them to me.

Had a busy few weeks but found time the other day to get them done!

Speakon's Added. I decided to put them on the side so I could but the speakers right up against the wall.

Used R13 / Spray Glue to line the cabinet walls.

Compression Driver connected to the SEOS12 horn:

My very ugly crossovers. I applaud those who make beautiful crossovers and stick them inside of a box never to be seen again.

Crossovers attached inside with velcro:

Test fitting horn:

Finishing up and testing #1

#1 works, finishing up #2 and #3

All three stacked next to the Statement.

Listening impressions coming!

Nice job. What is their sensitivity again?
"What is their sensitivity again?"

a real 94db 1w1m with the deltalite ii 2512 woofer.

"My very ugly crossovers..."

performance is never ugly. keeping the inductors from interfering with each other is pretty much the only thing folks need to keep in mind. a little spacing and aligned on different axes and all should be good.

Just out of curiosity, where did you find the 94db 1w1m measure? I'm certainly inclined to believe it but just wondering.
that comes from the thiele small parameters when plopped into winisd, which is going to assume a sine wave response where the average power is .707 of the peak, but don't quote me on that.

the eminence spec sheet shows a little higher in the plot, more like 97.

+3db could easily be achieved by altering the crest factor. not sure what eminence uses. i don't see it specified.

http://www.eminence.com/pdf/DeltaliteII_2512.pdf

they report 99db 1w1m in the numbers, which is a little too aggressive in my opinion, but not completely dishonest as it measures that around 1khz.

unfortunately, there is not standard for what 1w1m actually means.

that is why i referred to 94db 1w1m real sensitivity.

the tweets are padded down to match the woofs, so the woofs are the limiting factor.

Very nice looking speakers.  Can you give specifics about the technique you used for duratex finish?

Roll-On grade?  Foam Roller?  Did you thin the finish at all?  How many coats?

Duratex Roll On

Lightly sanded everything before I started (mostly to make sure the edges were even).

Foam Roller from SpeakerHardware (has a texture to it)

Two coats, no thinning of the duratex.

Just rolled on so it fully covered a side and then did a light sweep over the wet paint with the roller all in the same direction to make sure it was even.

Waited a day between coats but I don't think it was necessary.

Duratex is really great and forgiving. Just make sure you don't put your first coat on too thick (or if you want to put it on thick, make sure you do so evenly). I finished my Statements with veneer and between applying it, sanding, and finishing it probably took as long as it did to make the speaker in the first place. Duratex looks very professional and can be applied in just a few minutes.

I'll get some better images of the finished speakers soon.

where do you get the duratex?

My guess would be:

(since he mentioned he bought the roller there)

I like the product but hard for me to justify spending that much when the speakers will be behind an AT screen and I already have flat black paint.

The gallon price is pretty high, but the common observation is that the coverage goes very very far.

Yeah understandable. It does go a long way though and requires no prep. I used 1/2 of a gallon for the three SEOS boxes, 2 Amiga boxes, 10inch sub, and 2 Overnight Sensations. Still with shipping and the roller you are looking at $70 bucks. For me the durability, ease of getting a nice looking finish, and minimal time needed make it worth it.

Certainly doesn't seem worth it in your situation though.

I did get mine from SpeakerHardware and the roller there as well.

But Duratex almost sounds as cool as using carbonite for a speaker finish.

Some people put lights back there to show off whats not immediately apparent.

I just Pop the screeen and say "look at this" "would you look at that"  "would you just look at it......."
