Marantz AV8801 Preamp/Processor Official Owner's thread - Page 94

I wish you could set the Triggers based on sound mode. It would be nice to have a amp off most of the time if i'm just using 5 channels or stereo.

^^
With the capability to trigger based on "Input Source" and/or "Zone" (p. 147 OM), I would imagine you could use an unused Source or Zone to accomplish your requirement.

Hi,

I've an issue with my 8801.

All the buttons of my front panel are locked : "Panel Lock: ON"

Le manual say: "Press ON/Standby while you press and hold BACK and ENTER with the unit in Standby"

It doesn't work because these buttons are locked.

For the same reason I can't make a reset.

Only my remote works.

Could you help me, please.

Regards

With the unit in Standby, it should work, however, you can also try doing a microprocessor reset (press GAME and SLEEP buttons on front panel while powering unit ON).

Are you following the instructions in the manual exactly as listed below? Ensure you are pressing/holding the BACK and ENTER buttons "before" pressing the ON/Standby power button.

That's exactly what I do.

The processor start and say " panel Lock: ON"

Hi,

I've been lurking around this thread for a while as I am I the market for a new Pre-Pro. A little background on my setup...

Parasound Halo C1 (been outdated for a while as it doesn't decode the latest sound for mats...been using a Yamaha RX-V663 as a cheap fill in)
Parasound Halo A51 Amp
Parasound Halo A21 Amp
M&K S-150 Speakers (S150 LCR, SS-150 Surrounds x4, MX-350 Subs x 2)

Simply love the sound of this system and was ready to go to a new Parasound a few years ago until they pulled the plug on it. My habits are about 95% movies and 5% music for what it is worth. Audyssey XT32 is drawing me in as well (want to remove the Velodyne SMS-1 from my system for my dual subs).

I'm torn between this Marantz and the Integra DHC-80.3. I know there is around a $1000 delta between the two, and some bells and whistles here and there that separate them. I can go either way. My local shops don't carry either and have shown me "similar" pieces from the two companies for a feel of what to expect. One dealer was pushing the Integra over the Marantz as the Marantz is more "music" (even went to the Marantz website to show me their music slogan rolleyes.gif) which made me not want to purchase from him for his lack of knowledge and spewing marketing at me. He did offer up10% off MSRP of either one if I called him back to order within a week. Not a huge point for me to rush back.

I see some users here with similar setups of Parasound Halo amps, so that is another reason I'm still looking at the Marantz and not taking the cheaper route with the Integra. How is the Marantz still working out for you guys?

Can someone send me a PM with what I should expect to pay for this unit and who might be a reputable dealer to purchase from and retain warranty? It's been a while since I made my last purchase, and would typically call up Jason Turk here at AVS for my needs, but from what I understand, he has moved on elsewhere. He was great!

Thanks for your help and keep up the great reading here!

5.2 here and for my room I don't feel it's lacking anything. It would be difficult to add more speakers in the room

7.2, I love the fact that XT32 handles both subs independently & seamlessly.

Does anyone have a four digit code that will let me program my AV-8801 remote control to operate an OPPO BDP-93, and a Verizon FIOS HD-DVR. Neither is listed in the manual's remote control code addendum at the back of the manual. I was also unable to use the code scan funtion to operate the BDP-93. None of the codes in the 2000 or 5000 range worked.

I don't want to have to try to use the learn function. If I read the manual correctly, you have to teach each button for the device one at a time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Steven.

Hi all,

Does anyone know what 32bit DACs the 8801 is using? I'm trying to decide if I should use the DACs in my OPPO (Sabre 32) for decoding multichannel or those in the Marantz? Anyone have any idea of taken the 8801 apart? tongue.gif

Sorry but my bass is balanced musical and pulse pounding when needed, I recently installed the new Ken Kreisel DXD12012 along with the 8801 and Oppo 105. Its more than I can describe in words to get the point across as to what accurate bass sounds like and unlike the M&K subs of old it has extension down to 10hz and upon hearing the new setup and the DXD having my room in head lock my wife who was going to let me get two of them now says no way and that my friend is why I say 9.1 first as who knows how much buttering up I'll have to do first! All jokes aside I happy with the 1 sub wink.gif

Isn't the best way to compare with your ears, and find the one you like the best? Spesifications isn't everything.

Yep multiple subs is one of the best upgrades you can make to your setup. Along with lots of bass trapping its the foundation of a good system.

I am sure most of you know, but its about smooth bass response over a wide area, not about volume (although you get that, too!)

It is possible to get smooth response in a single seat without multiple subs... just harder and requires more "luck".

Plenty of very good whitepapers out there about it.... search Harman, Welti, etc.

Good links and summaries from here...

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming....
