It is darn cheap but is it good for HTPC? I wanted passive cooler for my video card, so I've got Gigabyte 6450 for $22 AR. So far I am happy. Windows 7, however, rates it at 4.6.

If all you need it for is a HTPC, then Anandtech seems to think very highly of this cards low power draw and very capable video processing.

I picked up one of these last time it was $15. Has a small fan, but I have yet to hear it. Excellent card for HTPC. Rebate came pretty quickly too. Can't beat it at this price.

I bought one a few weeks ago & it has fixed a problem or two.

When watching some SD OTA programs with WMC7 there was some stutter, and sometimes a couple times per minute & seemed to be caused by the 29/59 bug. The 6450 fixed this. However I never noticed this with HD OTA.

When watching HD OTA using MPC-HC the frame rate would be one rate for about 16 seconds & then another rate for about 5 seconds & kept repeating. And the graph's Green video line would decrease & also indicate this. With the 6450 the rate stays constant & the Green line stays flat. So it fixed a problem even though I never noticed this when watching HD OTA.

So I thought it was worth $15. The card does have a fan but I don't hear it because the HTPC is hidden in the corner, & I think the PSU's fan might be louder.

I know 6450 is the king for HTPC purposes, I got one myself in my new rig, it was fan that was bothering me. I've got myself fanless Gigabyte 6450 for $21.99 after rebate not too long ago.. The card stays cool all the time.

I was waiting for the HD6450 to go on sale so when it did I got one. I would like a fanless model but the $14.99 sale appeared first.

Would this card give me better video output than the on-board gpu of my Ivy bridge i7 cpu on my Asus Z77 chipset motherboard?

I don't know if the 6450 would make a difference with your setup. Hopefully one of the more knowledgeable forum members can answer that.

I'm using a G620, an H61 mobo, and a 720p HDTV & don't notice any difference before or after the card. Maybe with a 1080 HDTV I might notice a difference. However I bought the card to fix a stutter problem with SD video and it did.

Just picked up a couple of these cards. Hopefully, it will solve the "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered" error that my on board ATI HD3200 has been showing lately.

According to Rene, it is about the same as Intel 4000, or even worse.

I'd go with i3 3225, but since I need a card for the component anyway, I've got myself 6450 w/passive cooler, and I am quite happy with the results.

WEI though rates it at just 4.6.

Which CPU are you using, and do you recall what your WEI was before the HD6450?

My WEI before the HD6450 was 5.0 & the Gaming graphics was 5.8.
With the HD6450 the WEI is 4.7 (which is the same as the desktop performance) and the Gaming graphics is 6.2.
I'm curious why the desktop WEI decreased and yet the gaming WEI increased.

i3 3220, I don't remember what it was before installation, but WEI really doesn't like 6450, because of it weakness in games. Or 3D. Or whatewer M$ in their infinite wisdom put in there biggrin.gif
