What's the best 48-50" TV under $1000?

I'd really appreciate some help from you guys. I've done a couple hours of research and now my head hurts trying to figure everything out.

I'm looking for a TV for gaming and watching movies.

I may wall-mount.

I don't care too much about extra features. Image quality is the most important thing.

I'm looking for something around 50" under $1000.

take a good hard look at the Panasonic ST50. Seems to be a lot of peoples' favorite as far as picture quality. It competes with TVs twice it's cost. The 50" is $1098 on Amazon.
