I was wowed out the box, but they got better and better. Give 'em at least a couple of weeks of solid playing just to be sure. The other thing is that they are very revealing of less than stellar source material. Put on a CD or SACD of something you know to be a fine recording. Save the Zeppelin or movies for not-so-critical listening. You begin to take for granted the quality and clarity of the sound until you listen to something else. I go back and forth on using my sub. I often forget to turn it on..
Here's the thing: I love my movies but I do that in my living room with multi-channel and good speakers. The LS50s are for my smaller listening room where I listen to Classical music exclusively. They are amazing. I don't miss the pretty good multichannel set up I used to have there at all. The sence of space and clarity of these KEF's put me there.
I get all the pop and rock I need at work every day as a broadcaster.
If all you use speakers for is loud movies and clipped, over compressed pop or rock--- These speakers are wasted.
They are appropriate for systems which would normally utilize speakers costing 8 to 10 times more that 1500 a pair.
By the way, the KEF USA site IS selling single LS50's now--- good for those of you wanting center channels.Edited by programdirector - 4/18/13 at 10:09am
