So it's ok now? You're getting AVCHD/BDMV playback over SMB? I was going to suggest trying to the folders on locally attached storage to verify they are decrypted and structured properly.

I know both user names and both passwords are correct, so I'm stymied here. Does anyone have any ideas, or perhaps another server (free) I could try? I'd like to be able to stop burning discs and/or using a thumb drive to get ripped movies to my Oppo. I've got 1,000 DVDs and 200 BDs, but sometimes I like to test drive a film before buying it. Streaming seems cheaper than burning to a disc, and easier than dragging files onto a thumbdrive.

Thanks.

Does Plex include both DLNA and SMB servers? The password challenge should happen for SMB only. I'm not sure it's working properly on Mac yet. Still experimental.

If you want to try a different DLNA server, Twonky is available for Mac and people report quick success with it.

I'm playing ISO via SMB by mounting the ISO to a shared virtual drive. The share must have the name "AVCHD". Works great.

With my BDP 83, I had my video HDD attached to my Airport Extreme with no passwords. Plex was the only thing I could get to actually recognize that drive and allow the drive to be found on my 83. Alas, I could not get Plex to actually play the video. I got a error that the media is not supported even with files I had played just fine from a thumb drive. I'm thinking it is a profile issue or just a limitation on the 83.

PS3 Media Server works fine for me from my MBP as long as that same HDD is mounted to the laptop not the router. My wireless is not up to streaming without stuttering so I just use it wired. I will be testing with my 105 once it arrives.

Hope that helps.

Samsung 61" DLP. Directv HR22 HD DVR, , Harman Kardon AVR520

The DTV is hooked up HDMI in the back of the 103. Out to TV HDMI out of oppo. Audio is analog out of the 103 to the AVR. Have run a number of disks through the Oppo and Blue-ray is fantastic (Baraka) The blu-ray Italian Job was not as sharp, noticed slight fuzziness on faces. Standard dvd (Diana Krall Live in Paris) seems better in the old HK DVD player but can't go back and check as the HK went to storage. Directv HD esp Live is fantastic. Some standard broadcast are out of focus a bit. Is this the norm?? What have others experienced? Is this due to broadcast standards or ??

If you have not done so already, make sure the HR22 'Display Options: Video' is set to "native" so the Oppo does all of the video processing.

And yes, standard definition broadcasts will not look as clear. It's a combination of the inherently lower resolution combined with aggressive compression for transmission.

I've never looked for the DTV menu. I assume it is fairly straight forward to access it?

Yes. Pages 74-75 of the User Manual (*.pdf).

WOW I'm disappointed with this player:mad: I just updated the beta firmware and I can no longer use the hdmi 1 on the player. If I change to hdmi 2 out of the player it works. I am not happy! For $500 I expect more then this. I had a Sony bdp 1000ES and NEVER had any problems. Can anyone help please??
**EDIT** I apologize for some reason it changed the output resolution to 4kx2k smile.gif after the beta firmware update.

Maybe if you gave us more information.

In what way does it "not work"?

Did you do a Reset Factory Default after updating the firmware?

Does cycling through the output resolutions or switching 1080p24 off make a difference?

Neither iPad or my iPhone can find the Oppo 103 with the new app? Do I need to install the latest firmware via USB? I have not installed the newest version as my player has been working fine. Also does this mean ip control for apps like Roomie? Thanks

Unfortunately I still have the lip sync delay. I have The Dark Knight Rises in right now. I am running the audio through my Pioneer Elite SC 25 rcvr. I changed the delay from 1.0 fr to 4.0 fr and it has helped. I just don't want to have to keeping changing the delay when I want to watch directv or another blu ray.

Even so, it is Beta software, if stability is your most important thing, stick with the release software. Getting upset about an unofficial release that is marked as such, not working right isn't reasonable. Anyone installing any sort of software that is 'Beta', which means it is for external testing, shouldn't be getting upset by its behavior. If that is your thinking stick to the release software.

Look at the first post in this entire thread, especially the link to the FAQ. Just about everything you want to know will be there.

Here is a specific FAQ on the ISO via SMB trick: How do you play Blu-ray ISO files over SMB?

SMB is a network file system, very common on Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliances and also for file sharing from the PC desktop. It was originally an MS Windows service but you can provide it in other ways: I use Samba on a Linux system.

Note that BDMV folders work on local storage now, and BDMV folders nested within AVCHD folders work now on SMB, but I always caution people that this can go away at any time. I have no inside or advance knowledge, just an appreciation of how much the studios hate this capability, and how much pressure they can exert.

I have the same problem. I'm using the latest "official" firmware (not the December beta) and did the following to test iphone app:
powered on 103
after it has started, then launched iphone app
it did search but reported back no players

Tell the Remote app to Search again. It takes a bit of time for the networking to become live in the player (unless you are using Quick Start). You may have tried to find it before the networking was live in the player. Check that Setup > Network Setup > Connection Test is OK in the player.

The player and your iOS device must be on the same network in your house if you have more than one network set up.

Has anyone performed a comprehensive audio quality comparison between the 7.1 analog output and the HDMI audio on the Oppo 103? Is the 7.1 analog ouput for legacy receiver only or does it offer any better/worse performance to the HDMI audio? Also, any audio comparison between the Oppo 103 and Panasonic 500 or Sony 790?
Those are really nice GUI's. Sure would like to have them and add some additional ones, with the same theme in a different control system...

BTW, no problem seeing 103 from Iphone5 app.

Thank you very much

HDMI vs analog depends on the receiver. You can't answer the question regarding the player alone.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I guess no one came up with a good solution to trigger an external amp, guess the Oppo 103 is not truly a preamp. Seems it is still more preferable to use a preamp when using an external amp. The Oppo appears to have an excellent video solution, but cumbersome for audio without going through a preamp or receiver for the audio. It appears one must decide if it is worth the additional $$.

^ You tried and rejected the suggestion about using the USB port power as your trigger?

To answer the question about my Amp not having 5.1 inputs, it does have them but it's a db25 connection (damn you Rotel). The db25 to RCA cables are expensive.

How much of difference will 5.1 uncompressed audio coming from the OPPO compared to the digital out (optical or coax)?

Another reason I'm looking at the OPPO is that it should solve my eventual Wii-U sound problem since you need something to decode that 5.1 PCM signal and then send it to my receiver.

I currently have the oppo 83. What are the differences if upgrading to the 103?

The -83 is the first generation player, and the -103 is the third, so there are two steps in feature changes. You could look the FAQs and combine the results:
