Don't worry. You can still pay your California Sales Tax on your new OPPO 105 when you file your 2012 tax returns.

I am wondering if anyone can answer a question about the vertical stretch capability of the 103. I am considering purchasing the Sony HW50ES projector to use with an anamorphic lens (which will not do a vertical stretch for 3D )so I will need to use another means. I have the 93 and it was reported in the Sony 50 thread that the 93 will not stretch 240 ratio films in 3D on this projector so I was wondering if anyone has the 103 and if it will do it or is this have something to do with the Sony 50 that will not allow the both Oppos to stretch in 3D.
Thanks in advance

I recall the -93 will stretch (and otherwise zoom) 3D titles that do not have java.

Someone with 3D can verify, but I believe the only current restriction on the -103 is that titles using the Picture-in-Picture feature are not zoomable. We hope this will be corrected in future firmware.

I ordered the 103 yesterday to hook up to my antique Denon AVR-3805 and a new BenQ W7000 projector. I really didn't want to spring for a new Receiver, so I like the 7.1 CH out feature. I am also looking forward to running HDMI into the 103 from my D* box to the projector. I bought 2 25' HDMI cables, but now that I got the Oppo, I guess I didn't need one of them. frown.gif

Just got the Rolling STones Grrr! Blu ray audio disc.

Just wondering if anyone else is seeing the same thing on the menu. Very simple, shows the current track playing, then the upper right of the screen are the numbers 1-50 in
a grid pattern so you can jump directly to a track. Then below that are the 3 audio options (PCM, DTS-HD, Dolby HD). On my Oppo 103 , it keeps flashing maybe every 10 secs very fast
like it is refreshing the screen. The numbers and letters are white on black background so it's kind of annoying.like a strobe light. Anyone else have this disc and see this?

Thanks guys .. right now, it seems the only thing the roku stick has which the Oppo doesn't is the Amazon Prime support. I played a few of my Prime movies (Stargate Atlantis series) and the images looked soft to me, between VHS and DVD quality. I don't know what codec AP uses but its not that great IMO.

It seems the Oppo has all the critical apps which are also duplicated on the roku stick. I may have to return it for a refund. And the big stick sticking out of my player is quite distracting in my system now ...

MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!!!

The big stick sticking out is easy to resolve see Monoprice. You can use one of these male to female adapters easily.

As for Stargate Atlantis, heck $72 buys you the complete BD set (seasons 1 - 4) on Amazon, heck a lot better then Amazon streaming.

The Roku Stick also offers a lot music services streaming. (new Spotify and Vevo channels just added)

Happy Holidays.

Hi,

I have Panasonic 65vx300 plasma tv. This plasma tv has "30 bit" image processing engine. Which setting is right for me on Oppo103? Hdmi deep color is off , 30 bit dithered or 30 bit ?

thanks

Help Fellow Owners!

I just received an OPPO BDP-103 as a Christmas gift. I unpacked and hooked it up. Put in my Netflix login/password at the prompt and immediately watched a Netflix video via the Netflix app. Then I upgraded the firmware to the December 12, 2012 version, BDP10X-38-1211, using a USB flash drive. The re-flashing of the firmware was without incident. But now whenever I try starting the Netflix app, it tries for about 10 seconds and then gives me the error message: "Unable to connect to Netflix. Please try again or visit" www.netflix.com/tvhelp". Hitting "Try Again" does nothing. "Exit" appears to reboot the BDP-103. I've gone to the "Setup" app and under "Device Setup" and under "Netflix", done a "De-activate Netflix" to which it asks me "Are you sure the you want to de-activate?". Answering "OK" appears to do nothing even though it immediately claims "This device is deactivated!". Because even if I do a cold boot and power cycle the BDP-103 first, it still gives me the same connection complaint when I start up the Netflix app. I have also tried to "Erase Accounts and Settings" under the "Reset Factory Defaults" setting, and while it does force me to re-enter my wireless LAN password, it does not change the behavior of the Netflix app.

What am I doing wrong? What do I need to do to get the Netflix app to allow me to re-enter my login/password again, if it isn't the "De-activate Netflix"?

Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Netflix streaming service was down for most of 12/24, not sure about today. Your player is fine.
^^ I am not sure if Netflix is back up today but I had trouble on my Panny last night. Per web searches it was mostly east coast and due to services provided by Amazon. Other sites were hit too.

Just opened my BDP-103 for Christmas and have a question;

It's connected to my lan via ethernet. The Oppo iphone app does not seem to be able to turn it on when it is powered off. Is there a wake from network setting somewhere that I am missing? Is it supposed to be able to turn it on if it is powered off?
^ Switch Standby Mode from Energy Efficient to Quick Start.

Ah, yes that worked. Thanks!

Make absolutely sure that there is no HDMI cable connected from the Monitor/Television Out on your receiver. I want to ensure that your errors are not due to a bad HDMI handshake between the receiver and the display which causes the receiver to determine that the audio should be stereo or 5.1, rather than multi-channel or 7.1.
There is no cable connected to the HDMI out port from the receiver.

There isn't an info button.

The front panel display of the receiver shows "PCM" "DIG" and shows the 5.1 speaker arrangement lit up.

There are times when no sound is being transmitted by the player to my receiver. The only way I can resolve it is to change inputs on the receiver to another device and then back again to the player. Then sound comes back.
Here is more background: I've got a new Yamaha RX-A820, and it shows which speakers are active with lights on the front panel. When I put a disk in the 103, the lights on the receiver may or may not light up during the menus and then the movie. No lights, no sould. I have tried many things, and one that I *thought* did the trick was turning on the 103 several seconds later than the receiver. That seems to take care of the sound during the menus, but when the movie starts, the lights go out and I've got no sould. I'm thinking it's a HDMI handshake issue between the two, and since it doesn't happen on any of my other devices (Wii U, Roku, DVR) I'm thinking that it's 103 specific. Although to be fair, the Yamaha is new as well. I could be barking up the wrong tree.
On the 103 I'm currently bitstreaming and have secondary audio on. I'm going to start fiddling with various settings tomorrow, and trying further delays between device startup (I've got a Harmony remote) in the hopes that this fixes the issue.
Any thoughts I things I could try?

Glad I found your post. I'm battling exactly same problem but with Yamaha RX-A720. I'm pretty sure it's OPPO. Have you finally figured the solution? tia

BTW when I use the 7.1 analog outputs, I get 7.1 audio from the 103.

That doesn't show up on the display of the receiver (obviously) but I do get 7.1 discrete channels of audio.

When I use the HDMI 2 port, I don't get 7.1 discrete audio.
The receiver just sends the same signal for the SL to the SBL, and for the SR to the SBR.
Unless I use DPLIIx or DTS-NEO6 downmixing from the receiver.

Good morning OPPO fans and Merry Christmas all,
Add me to the list of giddy dads who received a 103 for Christmas (thanks to my wife). My first post in this thread yet have been a somewhat longtime OPPO owner since the 981 and have been enjoying the 93 since pre-order Nov 09. The 93 has been in the HT mated to a JVC RS15. Still has the ISO capable firmware and haven't had any issues with exception to a handshake now and then. Recently purchased our first 3D display, Panny 60GT50 - and have blessed it with the 103. Instal was fun and uneventful, updated to the latest FW release and am streaming from my Synology NAS as I type.
This setup is in our main family/living room where I have an old Yamaha DSP-A1 - had since new in 96 and it still sounds better than most of the current receivers. I only mention this as I connected the 103 via analog 5.1 to the DSP. This is a first for any of my OPPO's let alone any audio device. Much better 5.1 soundstage out if the DSP vs optical. For any interested the 103 is working flawlessly with my Synology 1812+ as well.

Enough of my typical ownership bliss - I spent numerous hours reading through this thread in the past month(s), just like the 93 thread. As many have before I can only thank the OPPO experts/testers that place a great deal of time and expertise on this forum informing all on the functions, capabilities and like every product, the pros and cons. I have no idea of your relationship with OPPO Digital, yet you definitely provide an invaluable service.

Thank you all.

hello forum members
Merry Christmas!

I am debating to buy a emotiva umc-200 or the Oppo.

here is my setup: a htpc/xbox and a emotiva upa-7 amp (7 channels)
right know i do not have a xbox hooked up, because of the lack of a video processeor or receiver to switch devices. I don't plan to run anymore devices. I have been just running a HTPC to the projector and the Htpc audio from the 8 channel 3.5 mm to rca's to my amp. been doing this for the past 2 years. been happy with sound but would like to add the high quality bluray player and the xbox.

I asume the oppo can switch between the HTPC and xbox fairlly easy and fast.

the pros for the umc-200
4 hdmi ins. versus the 2 on the oppo
room correction
maual audio equalization

The pros for the Oppo
2 hdmi's out (i have a lobby screen that I want to mirror the projected image) versus just one on the umc-200
a blu ray player
network connection and apps.

any comments or details to the pros would be appreciated

thank you
Larry

Since you have been so incredibly insistent on this point, I went so far as to remove the HDMI cable from the Oppo to the display.

So, I have just one HDMI cable connected to the Oppo 103.
It is going from HDMI 2, to the input on my receiver.

I still have the same problem.

I've been reporting this as a bug for months but the user fix is easy.
Technically, adding a sort step to the server will slow performance, but I doubt if it matters until you have tens of thousands of files.

I didn't have any luck running HDMI through the 103, from a Direct TV H21 to my projector.

It couldn't pass 3D, and all I got for audio pass through, was stereo.

You will have to run HDMI directly from the set-top box to the projector for video, and use SPDIF for DD audio.

For 7.1 from Blu-ray, the 7.1 analog outs, will work fine.

I used the audio processing in the 103, and turned each channel down to -10. Then I adjusted the low channels up using a DB meter to match the rest.
That way, I could set the 103 volume at fixed (100) and not worry about blowing up my speakers.

I do not get the hiss that I have read complaints about. It sounds great through my AVR-2807.

Glenn/Tia, My Yamaha RX-A820 sometimes has the same handshake issues with my new Oppo 103 (which my old Panny 320 didn't have). A quick back & forth switch of inputs on the AVR cures it. Oppo knows about it and said a fix may be addressed in an upcoming firmware. Oppo's far better picture & sound processing are so worth the short-term remote button juggling.
