I dont use the gester stuff on it. its work fine the other way.

How do you scroll the list down to the lower functions if you don't use any gesters?

Just to follow up with the Netflix "motion trailing" issue... I spoke to Oppo customer support today, and it was suggested that I try switching to Source Direct mode in the player settings. Interestingly, after doing this, the trailing effect was gone. This leads me to believe it's somehow the result of the player's video processing, which is not handling motion in these dark scenes properly. Now, the question is whether or not anything can be done about it...

Your player will not see the beta server unless you are already running beta software. You'll need to download the USB or disc version.

In my unending quest to get music from my PC (Win7) over to my Oppo, (All hard-wired.) I downloaded oShare and added to it (+) a folder containing a sample number of songs and it shows the folder in oShare. There didn't seem to be any way out of oShare except clicking the "X" in the upper right corner, so that's what I did. I opened my Oppo Network folder and, sure enough, I see "oShare(BobSackett-PC). When I click on that, the gear starts to whirl saying "Loading" and the next and final screen I see says, "No media server available. Please check your server settings"

So close, but no cigar!

Thanks.

I am using a 550. The previous codes for the 93 work. I had to add one learning control for the "Option" button.

Make sure you are pressing the _ or the X at the upper right hand corner of oShare, and not the big X directly across from +. The big X will delete whatever folder you just added to the program, making it null.

Check your notification bar for oShare and ensure that there is still a folder shown under Shared Folder. If oShare is not in your notification bar, then you accidentally closed the program.

Go to the player and ensure that oShare shows up and the folder also shows up.

Press the _ to put oShare back into the notification bar.

Browse the folder on the BDP-103 and see if it is still working properly.

My Oppo BDP-103 (with the latest release firmware) is connected by ethernet to my home network. I just noticed that on my Windows 7 computer the 103 appears as a network connected media device. When I click to see the full Network Map, the 103 is shown at the bottom of the map page. But it is not shown as part of the network map diagram. Instead, the 103 is shown in a section labeled "discovered devices that cannot be placed in the map".

I am wondering why the Oppo is shown on the map page this way rather than in the network diagram. The 103 is working fine as a network device, with SMB access to files on my computer.

Is this a (minor) issue with the Oppo firmware, or is the 103 not mapped by design?

Thanks for the help. First thing, I don't know what a "Notification Bar" is Looking it up I was led to believe it is an Internet Explorer function. I'm using Firefox. I didn't erase the shared file in oShare. There may be some way that I'm supposed to share oShare but I don't know what it is. It is another piece of software with no explanation. oShare is getting to my Oppo but then I get that message "No server..." You may have told me the answer but I am missing it. Thanks anyhow!

I thought I might have a brighter side of the day but that fell apart too. I followed the threads here and ordered a Roku Stick on Monday and it got here today! I wanted particularly to get a shot at Amazon Prime videos. So far it is the worst $50 I have ever spent.

Netflix, on my Oppo, works great and I have no complaints about either video or sound. Amazon, on the Roku, takes forever to download anything and, when it finally does, it is never above two-dot (out of four) quality. Forget HD and 5.1! The movies look like a home video with an out-of-focus camera. Then it goes into buffering about every 30 seconds: LONG buffering. My router, Oppo WiFi attachment and the Roku are all within a foot of each other. I started checking for the Internet evaluations and found a sizable crowd all complaining about Amazon's quality. But even Netflix looks fuzzy on the Roku while it is sharp on the Oppo. Am I doing something obviously wrong?

I'm about to find a new hobby!

I have the same experience as you. If you search for some of my older posts, you'll see plenty of complaints about Oppo's handling of Netflix using 1080p on both HDMI outputs. Other members have noted it as well. Source Direct is the only way around the noise reduction and trailing artifacts you're seeing, unfortunately. I've trained myself to switch resolutions before opening Netflix, but it's particularly annoying when I forget and have to back out of Netflix in order to switch it.

I e-mailed Oppo about it and they basically said that all the reviews of the player are great and they have no plans to dial back the aggressive noise reduction on streaming content. I'm tempted to order a Roku stick just to test it and see if the experience is the same, especially since the stick will provide many other streaming options and a much better interface if the planned upgrade to the Roku 3 interface is true.

Switching to Source Direct wouldn't be so bad if the Resolution button worked while in Netflix... Not sure why it doesn't. Maybe we can hope for that in a future firmware update...

Depending on your needs, using DLNA may work just fine and it does open the possibility of using methods other than the player's UI to browse and play your music.

Hello,
Thanks for the reply. The oShare works great with my Jriver media player! My Anthem doesn't decode DSD so it is not a problem.

Netflix software takes control so you're probably out of luck unless there is a change at Netflix.

From OPPO I received this email from a post I made here http://www.avsforum.com/t/1432162/official-oppo-bdp-103-owners-thread/7890#post_23215357

Often we allow Beta to revert to previous Official firmware, but the current Beta firmware does not allow for this. We moved to a new unified firmware architecture that makes the previous 38-1220 Firmware and the 50-0323B firmware completely incompatible with each other. You will need to wait for a new firmware release.eek.gif

Which makes me extremely worried about my region-free mod chip...

Why is the "Resolution button" needed for those using Source Direct?
post #7883 of 16436
^ He's saying that if he FORGETS to set Source Direct before launching the Netflix app, then he can't use the Resolution button to CHANGE to Source Direct without first exiting the Netflix app -- because the Netflix app (as created by Netflix) seizes control of the entire UI of the player and doesn't allow access to things like Setup menu or Resolution.

Same here. Oshare is painless and does exactly what I'd want it to do with my 103!

Why should one worry about the mod chip?

Hi all,
I just got my Oppo 103, left the settings to Auto, connected the included HDMI cable to HDMI 1 and to TV (Samsung 42" LED). What I get when watching DVD/MKV is few (4-7) horizontal bright lines (about 2-3 inches high) flickering across the whole screen. Blu Ray for some reason seems OK, but will check more carefully tomorrow.

Then I tried changing one at the time:
* Dual HDMI Output to Dual Display
* TV system to PAL/NTSC
* Output Resolution to 1080i
* HDMI Options, all possible combinations of Color space and Deep Color
* Changed HDMI cable
still the horizontal lines are seen.
Tried with several DVDs and MKVs....

What is more interesting is that the issue is GONE when changing to HDMI 2, but this is not the solution as Qdeo processor is then not in use... frown.gif

The firmware is the latest stable (January 08, 2013).

It's not the TV's problem as I have 3 more HDMI units connected to it and NONE show the same issue. Even after Change to other HDMI port on the TV the issue is still seen.

Please, I need advice on what next to tryout. I'm also thinking of returning it to the shop..

Regards,
Magnus

Are you in North America and is this the US model?

Are these (a) DVDs and MKVs or (2) MKVs made from DVDs?

Cycle through all the output resolutions on the player, including Source Direct. Any difference in the artifacts you are seeing?

European version of the player and located in Europe.
a, inserted DVD disks. MKVs are ripped from Blu Ray
issue is also seen when playing Youtube.

Tested other output resolutions including Source Direct. The lines are still there, but they are fewer but equally visible. No the lines looks the same.
