OK so I have a few folders like this...

DVD MOVIES.

What is the best way to integrate them into my HTPC collection and mediabrowser?

Should I convert to ISO or burn as a disc ????

Can I run makeMKV directly on this without first burning the DVD ???

Advice?

How did you get them like that - is the first question. Did you rip a dvd using dvdshrink, or similar - these are just bog standard DVD rips

If you did there should be two folders one level up - AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS, those files your seeing should reside in the VIDEO-TS folder, the other remains empty.

No need to convert to anything - unless you want to - providing they are stored as described any software will play them, without modification.

for MB they should be in the format

Movie Name\AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS, then within the VIDEO_TS folder, the movie files.

If you want to you can convert to mkv using makemkv without burning to a disc, use the 'open folder' option.

Generally, I use a program called handbrake to create an .mkv file. Free and easy to use (http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php). Mkv files are pretty big (compared to .mp4) but drive space is plentiful on my server, and I get excellent quality. As long as windows media center knows what to do with an mkv file, you should be good to go.

Most media players will play the whole DVD just as if it was a DVD if you launch a 'VIDEO_TS.IFO' file or load the folder that contains one. You appear to have extensions hidden in your file manager but the .IFO files are probably the ones that just show the VLC cone.

media browser will pick that up. put them in a file folder like this

Movie Title \ VIDEO_TS \ all of those files. it will launch just as if you had a dvd disc.

Not entering any of your competitions again - I suggested that in the first reply (no chicken dinner for me?) mad.gif

Why even bother converting these? Every player on earth should play them fine, they are after all the native DVD format. Mediabrowser/WMC will play them.

Lol.

Sorry. I actually saw that and took your recommendation. I converted it to MKV with makeMKV and just left it like that. When I returned to thread that was the newest reply...

Sorry for no credit where credit was deserved.

I guess it's just messy. I prefer a MKV container with an accurate name... inside my folders.
