Questions about purchasing a HD DVD player.

I have over the years acquired a pretty decent sized HD DVD collection, I have been playing them with the X360 HD DVD player, but my X360 is only component and will only out 1080i. Now I am looking to purchase a player that will, do 1080p, and also lossless audio and DD+ (bitstreaming capability doesn't matter to me) What player could I get for cheap that does lossless audio and 1080p?

I believe I'd be spending alot on Ebay for either of those two, in which like I said bistreaming Lossless doesn't really matter to me. I saw a A30 on ebay in nearly brand new condition for 50 dollars, I believe that does 1080p and DD+ and TrueHD via PCM, correct? I don't own a HD DVD that has any kind of DTS HD codec. I may go with the A30, thoughts?

My player of choice is the A-35, but the A-30 is the same machine as the A-35, minus lossless audio bitstreaming & multi-channel analog audio outputs. It is a terrific player, so if you do not need lossless audio or multi-channel analog audio out, then it should do the job for you. Please keep in mind that unless you are bitstreaming audio via hdmi, you will not get Dolby TrueHD decoded to multi-channel pcm - you will get the lossy dolby digital track via optical cable digital audio.

download the user manual for the A-30 here:

I will have A30 player hooked to my receiver via hdmi, my understanding is that this player will internally decode dd+ and dolby truehd and output multi channel pcm to my receiver, is that correct? Lossless audio matters to me, however bitstreaming it does not. If the player decodes lossless and outputs pcm to my receiver thats absolutely fine.

Yes - as long as your receiver is getting the digital audio signal via your hdmi connection, and your receiver supports decoding multi-channel pcm, I believe you should be ok.

HD-A30 Settings:
Digital Out HDMI = PCM

but be sure to check the manual to make sure this player will serve your needs.
