Yeah I try and place the lens cap on it after I'm done using it. I can already see some dust on the lens itself. Does anyone know how to properly clean a lens or should I not worry about it?

I would try a rocket blower used on camera lenses. Anything used on a camera lens would be safe, I would think. They probably have pretty similar coatings and such. Two items I would recommend would be a rocket blower and/or a lens pen. Amazon has them, or B&H Photo.

Thanks for the info. I think I found a lens pen on amazon by Nikon.

Did you have to send your projector back and then wait for the replacement? Cause if that's the cause that is horrible.

Chris, how does the warranty works with Amazon? Do you receive the 2 year warranty from Panasonic too?
I believe so. I bought it from amazon and not from one of their marketplace sellers. I looked on Panasonic's website and Amazon is listed as an authorized reseller. If you have an amazon account it is really easy to get a hold of them and ask that question. As I am still curious. I just went with them cause I know their return policy is awesome and they don't specify anything about how much time you can put on the lamp such as websites as visual apex and projector people. Since its the holidays they gave me a 90 day return window with the projector which is nice.

Thanks! Yes, I do have a Prime account, so I'll touch base with them. BTW, do you mind to share the link that list Amazon as an authorized reseller?

Sure, not sure if I can post it but I will give it a try. The link is below. Just make sure it says its sold by amazon if you decide to buy.

Edit: Dumb me, I read your post wrong. The correct link is http://www.panasonic.com/about/view-all-home-authorized-retailers.asp

Also, the nice thing too, since you're a prime member is that you can get 1 day shipping for $3.99 which is what I did.

Thanks!

So, if Amazon is an authorized retailer, the current promotion (Free 3 year Warranty, a $100 Cash rebate and two pairs of 3D Glasses) should apply to them. Correct?

Here is the link to the claim form:

Yep, I was thinking on using it and enjoy the PJ for the weekend.

I ordered mine Sunday from Amazon. I had it Tuesday. I miss out on the extra $100, but that's ok. I made sure I got it for the family to enjoy tomorrow. smile.gif

Are you saying Amazon gives you some warranty with Prime, or just their return policy got you a new projector?

I think what Chris meant was to inform with Prime you can return your product, if issues are identified on a 90 days windows without paying shipping and no restocking fees. But, let's Chris chime in to clarify this.

About your purchase from Amazon, did you complete and submit the form to claim your 2 pair of 3D glasses already?

No. I just got the unit last night, so I was too busy setting it up and playing. smile.gif I did cut the label off the outside box. The thing came double boxed from Panasonic and both boxes had the serial number on them. So now I can submit my claim and still keep a nice box for transportation (I usually do with high dollar items.)

Cool!

And, LOL..........I'm just like you, and have a lot of boxes at my basement (storage area) for my electronics....wink.gif

Thanks for the link. Too bad I ordered it earlier than the 21st. Hopefully you will be able to submit the form and get the 3 year warranty and $100 MIR. I would really like the 3 year warranty more than anything.

With returning my projector, all I did was inform them that I was having issues with it and was not satisfied. So they then sent me a replacement with 1 day shipping since I purchased that with it and now all I have to do is send the old on back with the per-paid label that they gave me. I don't think the prime membership has to do anything with returning the projector, just that it gives you shipping perks and faster service. The prime membership does not give you an extended warranty. I think they extended the return window from 30 days to 90 days for the holidays.

Well I have to say the new one does have better convergence and uniformity but still makes the high pitched whining sound which I can live with. But now I noticed flickering on the new projector when the screen is a displaying a constant color. I noticed this right away when I first turned on the projector and its been doing this for the few hours I had it on. Does anyone know if this will go away?
Also, I still have the old PT-AE8000 as I have to send it back still. Should I just switch the bulbs out and see if that would fix it?

Shoot, so this pretty much confirms that the noise is a problem with the 8000's across the board. You just saved me the nightmare of sending mine back for no reason. Much of that whining noise would be tolerable if there were only a way for it be constant and not regularly waver. It becomes a lot less pronounced when the machine is run in Eco mode, but that's not ok when I spent so much money expressly to get a bright, detailed image. It's also much less severe in Cinema 1 mode, I've found, but again, too dim an image. What a drag. frown.gif

BTW, sorry to not answering your earlier question about the image quality with dynamic iris disabled. It really is terrific. There's a minor loss in contrast, but it's still leaps and bounds above the contrast ratio that my AE2000U had with dynamic iris enabled, and that machine threw a beautifully detailed image with impressive contrast ratio. If you've not yet tried it, try it. The trade-off between a minor drop in contrast vs the constant mid-shot brightness fluctuations with D.I. enabled wasn't even a question to me once I gave it a run.

I will give it a try tonight when I figure out which projector I'm going to keep. I don't want to keep contacting amazon for a replacement. It would be nice if they made a mode where you can have the iris in a fixed position.

I've noticed when you try different seating areas, the sound of the noise changes. The sound is more pronounced when I sit in front of the projector instead of the rear. I've also confirmed that with putting my ear ear up to the unit. The sound is more intense in the front. I might try and take a sound sample for any one interested. Not sure if using a phone would be adequate though. Also you're right about the intensity of the sound changing with the brightness and different modes.

If u open either projector you will void any warranty currently in place.
In addition, there is a high probability that Panasonic will not except your returned projector.

Actually, the new official rebate is 3 years warranty, 2 pairs of 3D glasses, AND $100 rebate. That's valid from any authorized reseller from TOMORROW, Nov. 21.

I'm really hoping Projector People AT LEAST matches Projector Point.

Why not just buy from projectorpoint.com?

Would changing a lamp void the warranty?

Seeing as the instructions to change the lamp are in the user's manual, then I can't see how changing the lamp could void the warranty, except perhaps if it wasn't the original type. In regard to the flickering, I believe it is likely to be the lamp as some UHP lamps do have a slight flicker when new which settles down as the arc point in the lamp stabilises. One thing you can try is running in high lamp for a while to see if this helps, but I wouldn' worry about swopping the lamps to check, just be careful not to damage the screwheads for the lamp cover by using a well fitting screwdriver.

Thanks for the info about the warranty. I ran the projector in high mode for only a few hours but did not see a difference. Maybe I need to try it longer? If that doesn't work, then I will try to switch lamps and see if that makes a difference.

Happy Holiday Shopping Everyone!
First, please note that this is not an attempt to gain your sales, but your trust in giving you knowledge to make the right purchasing decision.

In response to certain places you can purchase the PT-AE8000U, we've been told by Panasonic that anyone that does not list the current rebates on their product pages and specifically states they are an authorized dealer - Is Not an Authorized Dealer, and purchasing though that seller means you, as the customer Will Not qualify for the Free 3 year warranty, $100 Cash rebate and Free 3D glasses on the mail in rebate...

Also - the link above posted for "authorized resellers" is for "Consumer Products" and the PT-AE8000U is sold by Panasonic's Professional Projector group, which unfortunately is not the same thing. Therefore, purchasing from an unauthorized dealer is not in your best interest. (Consumer products are things like the Panasonic Viera plasma etc that are sold in big box/brick & mortar stores).

Thank you -

Does that prove Amazon is an authorized seller of projectors (does Panasonic consider projectors in their home-entertainment category?). Can't say for sure, but note how Projector People and Visual Apex etc aren't on that list, and they're DEFINITELY authorized sellers. Gives me pause (meow), in any case.

EDIT:

Visual Apex was posting as I was. Figured this was the case. I've never ever seen a projector rebate on Amazon.com, so it had me worried. That clears that up.

Well, that is an interesting piece of information.

Could you please share an e-mail address to contact you about the PT-AE8000? Not able to call now, so e-mail will work best for me.

So, from the little research that I did just now, it seems there are two different groups within Panasonic:

Consumer Products - Amazon is one of them

&

Business Products - Projector People, Projector Point, VisualApex, etc are listed as authorized resellers there.

In this particular case, the PT-AE8000U is considered a business projector and therefore it classifies as a "Business Product". Which is weird to me, knowing this projector is oriented to the home theater crowd. But hey, I guess Panasonic knows much better about how to classify these products than me........confused.gif

I just got off the phone with Visual Apex, and spoke to a nice guy named Carl. Based on my experience just with that phone call (several questions) I'd quite happily buy a projector from them.

I'm just curious why Projector Point is the cheapest of the authorized dealers at $2,799, and everyone else is $2,899 that I can see...

As far as dealers go, this is the best I can find that are authorized.. Can't say how new this list is, but it's from Panasonic itself!

Hmm, weird how Amazon would sell something like that then. I'm wondering if I should take back my projector and then buy it from elsewhere.
