And since you have to neither read nor post in this thread, I'd say you are the kind of guy who pollutes threads.

How about threads about whether people like or hate letterboxing!!!!!!

Robocop
City of Lost Children
Blade Runner
2001 A Space Odyssey
Time Bandits

(Sleeper, Woody Allen, 1973 would be on this list if available)

Minority Report didn't make the list, but that's because I haven't watched it as much as the movies above.

It was mentioned once back in post #84, http://www.avsforum.com/t/1432440/what-are-your-top-5-sci-fi-blu-rays-of-all-time/60#post_22471252

I was assuming this was meant for movies, but if we're also including TV shows, I'll have to give serious consideration to BSG, T:TSCC, SGA, SGU, and many others that I wish were on BD for my top 5 list.

And I'm also wondering if I should move Prometheus into my top 5 list. I watched it in 3D last night, and it is growing on me. I caught several things that I missed when I watched it in the theater earlier this year.

A top 5 list is such a difficult decision for a sci-fi junkie like myself.

"of all time" I'm not sure, but "currently" wink.gif, here goes (in no particular order, and based on the overall Blu-ray presentation *and* the fact that I like these movies quite much):

- 2001
- Tron Legacy
- Alien Anthology (the whole package)
- Forbidden Planet
- Prometheus (technically perfect, and well, I'm in the "the movie is great" camp tongue.gif)

...Yet I should add:
- Avatar EE
- Blade Runner
- 12 Monkeys
- Planet Of The Apes (Heston)
- The Matrix Trilogy

There's still more, but not now... wink.gif

Top five huh? Well, that's hard but I can try to narrow it down (in no particular order):

1a. Star Trek II: TRoK
2a. Contact
3a. Blade Runner
4a. Alien / Aliens (interchangeable as they are the only two Alien films I believe to exist in that universe. The rest are a blight upon the franchise)
5a. Back to the Future / Cloverfield (wildly different films but again, interchangeable for various reasons)

edit

An honorable mention top five would be (in no particular order either):

1b. Star Ship Troopers
2b. Star Trek VIII: First Contact
3b. Children of Men
4b. 2010
5b. Close Encounters of the Third Kind

edit 2

And because I can't seem to stop trying to place these in my top five:

1c. Avatar
2c. The Matrix
3c. Stargate
4c. Spaceballs (hey it counts! lol)
5c. A.I. (inspite of the ridiculous ending. That movie had style in spades)

In no special order:

Contact
Solaris (the original, not the horrid remake)
Galaxy Quest
Star Wars IV
Star Trek IV

I'd include The Man From Earth, but I'm not sure it's really sci-fi.

Metropolis (1927)
Frankenstein (1931)
Island of Lost Souls (1932)
The Invisible Man (1933)
Bride of Frankenstein (1935)

Of coarse there are "5" classic SciFi flicks; I'll be EDweird bout it tho:
5. "Beneath The Planet of the Apes"
4. "A Clockwork Orange"
3. "Rollerball"
2. "Road Warrior"
1. "AlterED States"

I know... not THAT weird... just not '2001', 'Close Encounters', 'SW', etc...
really like "Stargate (theatrical)" as well!
