Macbook Pro and B&W 685 Setup Help

Hi everyone I need some help with my setup. I currently have a Macbook Pro, 2x B&W 685s, Polk Sub and a Pioneer VSX-810 receiver. I am sending audio through mini-displayport to HDMI connected to the Pioneer receiver. Then I have the standard connections for speakers and sub. I am only using this setup for audio so all other ports on the receiver are empty. I would like to upgrade my receiver (and later Sub) but I am not sure the best way to go. I know I will need a DAC but not sure which one would be best. I would like to keep the budget under $600 for everything. But if something is worth spending more please let me know.

Thanks!

Why upgrade the receiver? That seems a pretty good one, and the benefits would seem minimal with that budget. Was there some feature you are missing that you want?

Depending on which Polk sub you have, seems better to start with the sub upgrade to me.

I was told by friends who say they know audio that the speakers are pointless with that receiver but they have no credentials. What would be a good sub then? Don't need anything too powerful just tight bass.

The SVS SB12-NSD gets lots of recommendations on the AVS subwoofer thread for 2 channel music setups. SVS is an Internet direct sub company, and their subs are a typically a much better value than what you get at brick and mortar stores. Here's an in-depth review: http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/subwoofers/sb12-nsd-subwoofer
