Grrr. $4000 and because of a design flaw we have to pay another $80. Not cool.

I just ordered some of the Playstation glasses, maybe that'll fix it. If not I'll call Sony and the ht shop.

Frustrating.

I cannot see the reciever since it is in another room.

I have ARC and HDMI (Control?) enabled maybe if i turn that off i can determine which component id effecting it.

I did initially think it was a power supply issue since my first observation was during a storm but there have been, ithink, at least one ocurrence every time i use the theater.

Any other thoughts?

I think its your aurum 35ft cable. I had the exact same cable and experienced the exact same problem with two projectors. I ultimately went with a different cable and no more problems.

Bought six of the ps3 glasses. Same problem. I do like the playstation glasses though(10 $ each as best buy)

Is there any workaround for this? I only have Mac products.

Where did you find this firmware upgrade? I ask because I'm on the Sony support page right now and don't see it, you referenced that support said it fixed some sort of 3D transmission problem which is my only current issue - though there really isn't any way to know if it would actually fix the issue I'm seeing. On 3D cable (both VOD and broadcast) I have an apparent loss of sync every 5-10 seconds, blu-ray 3D is perfectly fine.

^^^^AFAIK, firmware upgrades for the Sony are not issued to consumers.  I'm sure Mike or someone else from AVS can confirm if there's even an upgrade available?!

This is correct, end users cannot update the HW50.

@ MBuck - is the IR emitter on the lower right hand corner (facing the projector) completely clear of obstructions? The sender can easily flood my 142" screen and didn't have sync issues in general once I made sure the HW50 was clearing the edge of my stand that I use for testing the various projectors.

That makes sense regarding the update. I sent Sony support an email with my issue to see what they suggest.

Their online support only said I needed one, I didn't see if there was one available only that I'd need to download Image Director which is PC based.

Can't update, have to buy an $80 part to fix a $4000 projector...as much as I love my picture, they've not made me a fan of Sony's support.

@mbuck:  Have you checked your serial number against the ones that "buzz" where Sony was sending out the external emitters for free?  MIght be worth another call to Sony CS...especially if you think you hear buzzing! wink.gif

Ivanhoek...what cable did you end up going with?

@Stauff:  Still puzzled at why your AVR was cutting out.  Did you ever confirm it actually lost power?  If so, I'm not sure how an HDMI cable is going to solve your problem. In any case, if you're convinced that's the issue then several users with 35' or longer runs have had success with the Monoprice Redmere cables (not the ultra-slim but the regular Redmere).  They are directional so make sure if you get one that it's installed correctly.

I ended up with blue jeans BJC series-1.

And, yes your AVR would appear to lose sound since losing sync to the display causes another hdmi handshake at the source.

I have been out of town all week but will begin further troubleshooting tomorrow.

Good thinking, I didn't have to go that route though.

Phone support was not only useless but frustrating as he acted like I was putting him out calling in. Fortunately Sony's Twitter feed proved to be successful after going back and forth a few times today. They've sent a transmitter out, at leastI was told they did.

So if you ever need support I'd go with @sonysupportusa instead of the phone.

Anyone know what Sony's problem is with maintaining supply of these projectors? I ordered mine 25 days ago from AVS and still can't get an answer as to when the projector will be on hand to ship.

I'm wondering the same thing, I ordered from a different online vendor but am going through the same thing wondering when they will ship. First I was told it would ship by the end of June. Then I was told it would ship by the beginning of July and now I'm being told it will ship by the 15th of July. It seems like Sony is having some real problems putting out these projectors or maybe they are fixing the 3d emitter problems on new machines coming out or something.

I bought mine locally, fortunately he had two on hand.

Interestingly, Sony said they could ship within 2 days if you buy direct from them.

Hey owners of the h50 I am looking to upgrade but I had a question regarding screens for everyone, I made this thread in the screen section but I wanted to put it here too so I would get opinions from actual owners of the projector.

I currently own an elite 100" and moving to a new house I want to use 120" screen.

the elite sable is $309.29 in cinewhite on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Elite-Screens-ER120WH1-Projection-Screen/dp/B00366S0UW/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header

the carada precsion is $868 in brilliant white http://www.carada.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=PROJECTION-SCREEN-H118P

and the carada critierion brilliant white is $1005 http://www.carada.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=PROJECTION-SCREEN-H118C

Basically what I am asking is it worth it to spend a whole lot more on carada, really just looking for opinions. I have had the carada sample before I bought my elite so I know what the material is like and yes it is SMOOTHER than the elite. I went with the 100" elite I have now simply because of the price, but now I might be willing to spend more. I'm just trying to justify the price difference.

I think I am upgrading from an 8500ub to a sony hw50es soon but getting an elite is still a great way to save money when I am trying to buy a $4k projector.

HELP! Thanks!

For all you other Sony owners, did you get a SquareTrade extended warrantee? Looks like it's about $400.

If I remember, is that not a four year warranty and with the manufacturer covering the first three years, you would be paying $400 for one extra year?

I can't say if the price difference is worth it, but I have the HW50ES and a 110" Carada criterion BW screen and have not had issues with either. My Carada screen is now 5 years old and looks as good now as it did on day 1.

I don't know whats up with that either. I was told that when I placed my order but decided to wait and save a few dollars. I was given a July 4th date for arrival but still waiting with no update other than they are trickling in.

I placed my order with AVS on June 7 and am still waiting. I'm also waiting for new chairs to come in, so the delay hasn't been that painful. I'm hoping that the chairs and projector arrive around the same time-frame, so that I can reclaim my movie room.

Film mode will be off for bluray if your player outputs 24p. No matter what you have set. For the rare interlaced bluray, use auto1 and if something looks wrong then switch to auto2.

Is it worth buying the Disney WOW BluRay? I have the Sony hw50es and out of the box I think it looks great, of course I'm also just in awe of the huge picture and great look of the projector.

Every now and then we rent a color meter (not sure the exact term) for our media at the church, just wait for that or is this something you use more than once? Maybe I find someone local to ATL and borrow it?

Oh, and is the Disney WOW product the best one? Seems like it from the conversations here.

Actually it's a 3 year, I thought it started AFTER the manufacturer's warranty. Guess that's an easy skip.
