Can anyone recommend a decent AVR for <$400?

While waiting for my projector to arrive I want everything else in place and ready to go. I'm thinking of the Denon 1713 (which is last year's model I believe) and I can get it for around $300. I only need 5.1 and I would prefer 5 HDMI inputs.

I'm getting the receiver solely for the projector so I'd like a brand/model with as few issues as possible. Just got done running the cable today and don't really want to have to do that again any time soon.

Check with them to confirm, but in the past, you had to use the manufacturers warranty up and then the second warranty took coverage.

I think the Denon is probably a decent bet. Look at Pioneer as well. They usually give you a lot for your money.

I started w Denon, first one home and the right channel was dead. Took it back, refused a new one; it was a one strike and your out for me. I went with Pioneer but also amped up my budget to $600. If you look you can get a nice Pioneer, non-Elite, for $500

Thanks guys. Much appreciated.

Accessories4less is a great site.

Not a good night.

Was making adjustments to my Paradogm Surrounds and they fell off the well and hit te wall on the top to the case.

Not a major nick, most won't see it but being a brand new speaker it's quite upsetting.

Is there a fix? Touch up paint/stain?

Hey guys new here but always lurking. Thanks for all the info it should help once i get my 50. I ordered June 5th so that seems like the longest wait of the of this current group. Hopefully AVS can come through sometime soon as football season is only a couple weeks away.

Ordered mine on May 30.

Has anyone ordered more recently and received one?

That is disconcerting. Sony has them in stock (you can buy it from their website directly) and you can find them at Amazon too. But of course that is at full price.

I think that puts you in the 1st or 2nd position and they expect to get something this week. I'm in 4th and am keeping my fingers crossed.

Exactly and I wish I knew why they can't keep their retailers in stock. However since they are in direct competition with the retail market their stock obviously has first priority. I'm really not to keen on companies that what to wear all the hats but I really want this projector so I'm waiting.

If Sony ships what they say they are going to ship in the next few days, nobody will be waiting long. smile.gif

Does anyone know how long the power cable is on this unit? I'm trying to see if I can run it through the projector mount extender or not.

I estimate about 7-8 feet.

Thanks! That's pretty long. I was worried it would be only 2-3 ft.

It's also a standard cord that many electronics/PC's use (I'd have to look up the exact type), so it would be possible to order a custom one too if needed.

It's a standard looking 3 prong IEC cord, you could change to a little longer if needed. I wouldn't expect that to be too expensive unless you went exotic......

I've been meaning to get a chance to post here about the issue I was having with apparent loss of sync with only my cable 3D content, I didn't have any issues with bluray 3D. I ordered a couple pairs of the PS3 glasses and to my surprise, NO blinking/loss of sync on cable 3D. I don't understand it, the glasses included with the projector have no loss of sync on Bluray and I honestly didn't expect different glasses to fix the issue but it did (I was just ordering for extra pairs).

Even stranger, I played Black Ops 2 on Xbox 360 and the PS3 glasses didn't ever combine the image into 1, and I grabbed the original glasses and they worked perfect. I only tested this once and only on 1 pair so I don't know if it was a unique problem or not. I haven't yet tested the PS3 ones on a Bluray yet, but so far it seems that any framepacked 3D the original glasses work perfect, and any side by side or over/under orientation that the projector has to combine the PS3 glasses work perfect but I get blinking/loss of sync on the original glasses.

Can anybody explain this? It makes no sense to me.

I've noticed sync issues with all my glasses (original, Monster3D, PS3) on OU and SBS material. I have not noticed any issues with BD3D, although I've only watched 1 or 2 of those in the last month. I'm guessing that the PJ or Source skips a frame here or there for whatever reason (most likely the source) and that causes the 3D signal to drop and thus the glasses go out of sync. My source is a WDTV connected to an old WHS NAS, and I've had some skipping problems lately, so I point the finger at that.
The PS3 glasses seem to do a sync lock so if you loose IR from the projector they just keep at the same rate as before. You can get up and walk out of the room and they will keep going for 30 seconds or so.

The glasses with the projector seem to only work directly off the IR, no internal oscillator to PLL to. If you turn your head they loose sync. So maybe the cable 3d is missing some of the sync data and the PS3 glasses just smooth it out. Pure supposition on my part.
But that does not explain my situation. I can have the both sets of glasses (Original HW50 and PS3) and the HW50 glasses suffer blinking/apparent loss of sync on cable 3D and the PS3 glasses do not. Is has absolutely nothing to do with the cable and I don't understand why cheap PS3 glasses work when the expensive original ones do not.

What kevni is saying is that the original glasses must have a 3D signal 100% of the time to stay in sync, but the signal from your cable is intermittent. The PS3 glasses "cache" the signal so that even if the 3D signal drops from your cable, the glasses still provide the 3D picture. I too noticed the PS3 glasses still flickered when I walked out of the room for a second, but the original glasses would turn off almost immediately.

I wonder if this is by design to account for any 3D signal loss during 3D gaming??
