Looking for a better sub for my HT budget is $200

hello guys i need your help which decent sub is better for my set up, i already have the denon 1612 avr, and energy take classic 5.0. and im still missing sub. and recommendation fro my set up? my budget for sub is $200 for any decent good sub. thank you.

Yep. Someone in another thread in the speaker forum just asked the same question about these subs and the Energy Takes just a few minutes ago, so I'll just quote myself

There have been debates on the AVS subwoofer forum over which is better. The consensus seems to lean toward the PSW505 as maybe being a little bit better for music. However, because they are more similar than different, the way in which the sub responds in your room will probably be the determining factor. Since you can't predict that, either is about as likely to be a good choice. If you have some reason to go with one over the other, I'd say go with your choice.

hi cel, what about the Polk PSW10 and energy take classic with denon 1612? is it a good combo too?

The PSW10 is nothing special for $90. You pay for what you get, so you have a very cheap sub with a very cheap amp that doesn't have much output. I think the BIC F12 and PSW505 (at $200) are a better dollar for dollar value when you consider how much more SPL they have, their better sound, and low frequency extension.

If around $100 is all you can afford, the Dayton SUB-1200 is the better choice over the PSW10.

i see. so polk psw10 is elimenated on my list. so if u were me which of the two sub you will get the psw 505 or bic f12?

I don't know. Probably the PSW505... But I'm not sure. There's doesn't seem to be a clear cut winner between these two subs.

lol. but i will think about it. ok if i will get one of those speakers and i know wires doesnt included where i can buy wires for my energy speakers to the receiver and sub to the receiver and what kind of wires i need to buy? thanks.

You can get speaker wires and a subwoofer cable at Monoprice.com.

If you are running long distances, the thicker gauge speaker wire is better. Might as well get 12 gauge.

Yep. Plug that into the unfiltered line in plug on the back of the Polk. To configure it, don't worry about setting the crossover on the sub itself; you just bypassed that.

Run Audyssey on the Denon 1612 and let it pick the crossover setting. Should set the crossovers with the speakers to 120 or 150hz.

One thing. After you run Audyssey, see where it set the channel level for the sub. You want it to be close to 0db. If a lot lower than that, turn the gain (volume) down on the back of the sub and rerun it again. Getting it close to 0db optimizes the receiver output for the sub amp. Then if you want it bassier after running Audyssey, turn up the channel level on the receiver (not the gain on the back of the sub).

If this is your first time using a Denon and Audyssey, check out AVS member batpig's resources. They are really helpful.

thanks, both pretty good sub. but right now im on tight budget. just waiting for a good descent sale on newegg. my only budget is 150-200. i hope newegg will put some on sale.

If it is not too late and you can swing just a few more $$ one of these will be very much worth your extra coin. I bought the Klipsch a month or so ago 250 is 50 less than I paid and the lowest I have seen and I am very happy. I have used it with full range fronts and Energy takes for surrounds and rears. Not top of the line but really great value BANG for the buck sub-woofer.
