Are standalone DVD players becoming obsolete?

I was at Best Buy yesterday and just for the fun of it, I decided to take a look at their DVD and Blu-ray players. To my surprise, they didn't have any DVD players displayed. All of them were Blu-ray players.

Are DVD players becoming obsolete? I wouldn't be surprised if they are since Blu-ray players are cheap now and can play DVDs.

Yes DVD players have been steadily going downhill since the introduction of BD player and since ~'09 quality DVD are gone, replaced by mostly junk. You've got to move to a BD player to get much quality. Even BD players aren't as popular as DVD players once were, as people move to streaming as their primary source of material.
