Hi there....I hope this is the correct forum for my question. Apologies if not.
I recently replaced my Sony DVD and Toshiba CRT with a Sony BDPS790 and a Samsung UE40ES5500 LED TV. Prior to this all my DVD audio was going through my Pioneer VSX-C100 via the red/white analog leads and everything was perfectly in sync.
I set the BD audio up exactly the same but the analog audio is ever so slightly ahead of the picture. There is no picture delay setting on the BD or audio delay setting on the amp, so I tried plugging an optical cable from the TV to amp - now perfectly in sync! BUT, if the TV broadcast is HD 5.1 or playing any BD/DVD that is 5.1 the audio drops intermittently.
I tried 2 different optical cables (different brands) and they're both the same, so that rules them out...this leaves me to believe that the problem is the TV or the receiver.
My speaker set-up is as basic as you can get...2 speakers. So my questions...
1 - Why is the analog audio from the BD ahead of the picture? Is it the fact that the HDMI decode is taking longer to get to the TV?
2 - Why does the optical from TV to Rec drop out with 5.1 broadcasts?
3 - Will a new receiver with an HDMI input save the day? (The BD has twin hdmi output)
Thanks!!!
UPDATE:
Just plugged the Optical from BD to receiver and that is not dropping and not out of synch...if 5.1. If stereo or mono it's not in sync...but that's not such a big deal.
So it would appear that the problem is the TV...I wish I understood all this.
