What do you guys use to attach IR emitters to your equipment?

Hi all,

In most of my installations there's at least one device (namely the cable box), that requires an ugly IR emitter stuck on the front of the device. I remember in my early days of low-end installations that the Harmony RF repeater came with handy adhesive squares that held the emitters in place more securely. Is there anything out there that I can purchase for this purpose? There's gotta be a cleaner way than electrical tape to secure an emitter---the adhesive that's on there never lasts long, and that's a silly service call!

Thanks!

I have open several of my units to install inside the emiter, that's the cleanest and harder way

HD and Lowe's carry a heavy duty, gray, double- sided, foam mounting tape. It come in small rolls with a red plastic cover over the adhesive. Unlike the cheap white foam tape with the green/white paper cover, this tape stays strong and does not dry out. It reaches maximum hold strength in about a week. A little extra heat helps to activate the adhesive. A hair dryer does quite nicely

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm sure opening the box and installing the emitter inside works, but that's not a realistic solution for me or my guys. The double sided foam sounds like a solution, but it does sound kinda ugly. Are there any issues with the IR passing through the foam?

I really can't believe there is no solution specifically made for IR emitters out there... Any body else?

Have you looked here?

What you attach emitters with doesn't have to be transparent, just pass IR. Only way to find out is to try

FWIW I don't attach emitters to my gear. I attach them to the cabinet the gear is in. You can pretty much use whatever kind of adhesive you want then.

My FIOS cisco dvr has a port on the back marked "ir". Would this be a seriel connection for ir control? Has anyone used this to control their FIOS dvr with roomie or irule using iTach adapters?

Thanks

I use hot melt glue. Never falls off but you can pry it off if you need to
