Well I ordered the chromebox for my dad for two reasons google keeps it updated and in a "steady state" so I don't get IT calls and I read an article from computer world magazine saying you should basically NOT use windows for online financial transactions. Anyways I guess I will be the guinie pig to see what it can do as far as a streaming box, since nobody commented on here. I know it has the hardware to handle pretty much any common video format, but not sure it you can use it to stream video from a home NAS.
