acvb......do you know what the first 2 numbers of your serial number?

Sounds like you have been struct by a common issue that others have been having as well. I am not sure if this was a motherboard issue or an LCD panel issue. I believe it is an LCD panel issue. The biggest concern that I discovered is this LCD panel was made by Sharp. So I am wondering if the financially strapped Sharp started dumping these panels to unload them to cut their loses.

From all the research that I have done these backlit LED's which really are LCD's are not built as solid as the LCDs were. So really all of these manufacturers are in the same boat. You hope to get a good one but I have seen reports in all the brands having issues. I was surprised to read all the issues that the so-called leaders have as well....like LG, Samsung, SONY, Panasonic, Sharp. People always say you get what you pay for but if that is the case then why does top of line Samsung 5 star rated JD Power for many years related appliances like a french door refrigerator or front load washer and dryer fail in 12 to 24 months?

In the end they are all computers being controlled by motherboards and circuits with wires so Murphy's Law applies. We all do this research but in the end we base our decisions off of want we find.....but do you really know what you are getting when you pull the box off the shelf....or a box just traveled across the country to our door step?

I picked up one of these Vizio's from Costco last night and set it up. Costco is a great place to get TV's from (they have an outstanding return policy)....why you automatically get 2nd yr warranty, then if you use Amex card you get an additional 1 yr warranty. Then if you would like for $59.99 you can get 3 yrs more in home warranty. The nice thing is that you have 60 days from the time of purchase to get the additional 3 yrs. So really you cannot go wrong with getting one of these to check out.

From my research these usually fail in the first 90 days.

If true, then it won't be long before some attorney opens a class action suit.

As poor as Vizio's response time to sending out my replacement TV, they ALWAYS make sure to try and sell me an extended warranty while I am on the phone with them. They probably are starting to realize that they will eventually have to replace these sets with another more expensive model and just want to get something more out of our current Vizio purchase.

I think he's looking for the first two numbers(not letters) in the the serial number? Mine are 44.
I have created a new thread to start building up some statistics on this model.....please take time to complete in the format listed. This will be helpful to all.

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1450621/vizio-e601-a3-how-long-have-you-had-this-unit

I am curious to find out what is the oldest Vizio E01-A3 out there and what the first 2 numbers of the serial are to find some correlation.

Thanks for your participation with stats like this we can have Vizio back up their products and build a potential class action.

I'm so torn about this TV-we just got our holiday bonuses (better late than never) for the year and it would be nice to spend $800-1000 (I'm hoping to catch a pre-Super Bowl sale) on a TV rather than $1500 or $2000. Also, unique to my situation is the fact that the alcove where the TV will be installed is just wide enough to accommodate this TV (the space55" wide-the Vizio is 54.13" wide)-I haven't found another 60" that will fit. It's either this or go to a 55 which I dont' want to do. Anyway, I'll be following the new thread that was started to track problems (great idea BTW!) and hope for the best!

No I have not - did not know it would smooth the motion.
I also noticed 2 golf balls in flight today - I know Dustin J hits it hard but....
Are there any of the "smooth motion" setting I should change to not get the weird balls in flight w Tennis, golf etc>

My confidence in Vizio as an upstanding company is diminishing rapidly.... My set failed in less than 3 weeks, it went black on Christmas Day, and I was told I would receive a new replacement shipped to my house in about 14 days... Vizio called me back 8 days later and gave me the phone number of the shipper who I called, and they gave me a tracking number...

I live in the Northeast, not far from Cleveland Ohio, and they said my new set will be delivered on Tuesday Jan 8th between noon and 4 pm... I said that will be fine, and I will be here to meet the delivery men.

I began tracking the set , and I tracked it each day, and almost a week ago it arrived in Cleveland and was at the delivery station however they were not going to deliver until Jan 8th.... So far no problem...

I went back on the computer and decided just to reload the tracking page and to my surprise it said the TV was just leaving San Jose Calif.... on 12/28 ... I said hold on a minute, I just tracked it all week and it's in Cleveland already how can this be? I thought maybe it was some sort of fluke and just let it go...

Today Jan 8th, I'm all set for my delivery, I stayed home purposely to meet the delivery guys because I wanted to be sure my new set is a new set in the box or I was not going to accept it. Well, about noon, I get a phone call from the Delivery people, the guy tells me my set that was supposed to be delivered is not there and he can't deliver something he doesn't have. I told him I tracked the set and it was in Cleveland last Thursday and that according to the Bill of Lading tracker he should have it I gave him the dates and time it arrived etc.... .... He tells me they had paperwork to deliver one to me but there is no set there and I will have to wait until the next shipment arrives which will be on Thursday Jan 10th, and he will make sure it gets to my house between noon and 4 pm and apologized for any inconvenience this has cost me but the set just was not there. I'm sure they sent my to someone else and just pulled a fast one and were making an excuse..... I told him I'll be here on Thursday and I hope they have a brand new set in the box for me or don't bother to even bring it... because by now I'm getting very pissed off with the whole Vizio company as well as the shippers who deal with them....

So, here we are, lost work time, time spent each day waiting for the new set to arrive, $300 spent on a 32 inch LED small TV just so I have something in my living room for 3 weeks to watch while I wait...

I'm just disgusted with the entire Vizio experience and I'll be waiting for the new one to quit working soon.... I seriously doubt if Vizio has solved the problem, i think they got a huge batch of bad panels and we are seeing them die, one by one... I'm glad that many of you have a set that has been working for several months now, but there are an awful lot of blackout sets out there and I'm sure we only see the ones here in the forum, I wonder how many thousand sets went black since these E601's came out back in the fall...

That is really strange.
If I had to make a guess based on your story and the delay in Vizio shipping my replacement, I'd wager that they know they have a problem with units that got the defective LCD panels and are waiting to get new units with good panels before they ship them out to us with bad units. In your case, I'd bet that Vizio shipped your TV then realized it was another faulty LCD unit and had the shipper send it back to them rather than give it to you and have it fail again a month from now?

My concern will be if I get a replacement unit with a serial number under 46.... wondering if I got another bad LCD unit or if my "NEW" replacement TV is actually a refurbished model where Vizio replaced the LCD on a returned broken unit?

If they just told me that the delay is caused by them wanting to send me a new and improved model, then I would be much more understanding and willing to wait to make sure I get a unit that will last.

Thanks for your help......I hope we can start seeing a pattern based on serial numbers. What I think happened is that Sharp unloaded a bunch of defective panels since the LCD part of Sharp has been their downfall last year. If we all hold Vizio accountable and come to the table with this list of failed panels then they might admit something is not right. No company wants to face a class action lawsuit when they know they will lose in the end.

To my knowledge Vizio is replacing each failed set without question. Some are experiencing slow deliveries which might be indicative of a large number of replacements required.

I was just doing a little reading through Costco's Square Trade warranty and since my BIL has a Costco membership I'm seriously considering finally picking this unit up there. They have it right now for $979 in stock at my local store. The TV, NJ sales tax, and the warranty would have me out the door for $1108.60. Cheap insurance IMHO. Does anyone know if the serial number is displayed on the box anywhere? I'd like to see how the problem thread plays out and see if there's any sort of pattern that develops. According to the thread currently the only units that have had problems so far (beyond lip sync issues that were fixable) have serial numbers beginning in 42 or 44.
Yes the serial number is on the box. I called Vizio about my sound bar and they wanted the serial numbers for both the TV and the sound bar and I couldn't make them out on the TV since my old eyes are going fast but I was able to retrieve them from the box.

I have read all 39 pages and have found a few posts about ARC not working correctly but no resolution. I have an Onkyo TX-609 and when I turn on the Vizio it turns on the Onkyo with TV/CD not Cable so I switch the receiver back to cable and everything is good. But I started a movie on Amazon thru the tv web browser and I get picture but no sound. Is this common issue? I checked the HDMI cable and even replaced it to eliminate that as the source, i also changed the configuration on the receiver to make TV/CD the source and then I get no picture and no sound. Is this a software issue with the Vizio? Also when I turn the TV off it shuts the receiver off as it should but within 5 minutes the receiver turns on again. anyone have a an idea whats going on with this? The HDMI is on input one (ARC) also on the TV. I hate to return this Vizio because it has an outstanding picture I would just like it to function as it should with CEC functioning properly as I seem to be the only one in the house that can use two remotes! Thanks

tehre was a fair bit of discusion in the e701 thread with the same problem. I think I saw that one person got it to strat working, but most have not.

Assuming you have the HDMI to the receiver in the HDMI (ARC) port on the TV? (I believe it is HDMI 1)

Just got an email from Vizio which showed the tracking/Bill of Lading from Manna Distribution Services. The tracking/bill of lading shows that the delivery agent received the TV on the 7th(2 days ago). I called the number on the email and they said that the earliest date they can deliver the TV to me is the 15th as that is when the delivery company will be in the area.

I said that was unacceptably late and asked them to see if they can get it here before the weekend. They said they'd find out and let me know....

This brings up a decision I have to make in that Walmart had agreed to let me exchange the TV for a new one without any additional cost - tomorrow.

I hope that Vizio/Manna can deliver their TV to me before the weekend or I will be taking the new one from Walmart instead. That way I could test the new one out and if it is still faulty accept the Vizio delivery and that way give me two more chances to get a fully functional and non-faulty unit. biggrin.gif

EDIT: Just got a call from MDS and they said they can deliver the new TV on Friday between 8am and 12 noon. Will post here what happens next.....

At this point I'd wish my set would fail, because it would put the nail in the coffin on this audio sync issue.

I read the 30+ pages of this thread. Just filled out montecore's survey too.

After reading about panel failure I'm a little concerned.

I've had my TV for about a month and fortunately, I haven't had any major problems so far. Only problem I had is with the remote volume button which gets stuck down.

When this model first came the serial numbers started in the 36 & 39 range which many of this sets had issues....then came the 42 and 44 range.....still some issues but much better......I have a 46 but have not heard to many issues here yet......that is why I have created that separate thread to track on of this over time.......then we have proof and some statistics there are major LCD panel failures. That is the biggest issue that I have seen so far. I think Vizio knows that Sharp pulled a fast one on them and dumped some defective panels.

So when people call Vizio they can provide proof if there is any doubt that there is a history there. Please make sure to post the data in the tracking thread.

I too bought this from Costco same price different tax rate. Automatically comes with 2 yr warranty from Costco and Amex adds one more year. I have not decided to get the Square Trade...I have 60 days to decide to add 3yrs more of warranty.

Just an FYI....you can find the serial with TV on by doing the following:

1) Menu
2) HELP then OK
3) System Info then OK
4) Will say TV SN

You will also find your version as well.....these TV's usually arrive with 1.13 and if hooked up to the internet will update to 1.14 within 24-48hrs.

I know there has been a lot of discussion for TV settings.

Please keep in mind color and perception is in the eye of the beholder. There are many variables to consider which will change the appearance of the screen. There is no two people on this site that will have the same conditions and therefore will not have the same settings.

I tried so many different settings that I have seen posted all over the place and although some looked good many were what I considered way off to my liking.

I said enough is enough I put it on a nice HD channel do not do this on a standard def channel and started changing all the PICTURE settings and now I have an incredible color popping picture better than my LG, Samsung and Sharp LCD's that I have. This was my first VIZIO and I am keeping my fingers crossed that serial 46 is a winner.

Take some time a play with the picture settings....I know it is a pain and we want this things to work out of the box but you must tweak and calibrate every TV.

Jack, you might be right about their delivery but I have my doubts about where the set went , mainly because the guy has the Bill of Lading in front of him and he knew to call and tell me he had no set to deliver. I think if it were a matter of the old serials or panels they suspect are bad he would have told me Vizio wont deliver the sets with those old numbers on them now due to potential problems... You can see how I felt when they emailed you and postponed delivery for many days. I just felt the guy who I assume works for Manna, knew where the set went but called Vizio and asked for another to deliver to me, then they called and said theres a delay. I was not happy because I'm missing 2 days of work, plus I already spent that $300 bucks on another Vizio 32 inch LED which is really nice, but in front of my E601 which has been black since Christmas looks awfully small but at least I can watch TV.. I'm most likely hang the 32 inch in my bedroom and it will look good on the wall there......

My set will arrive tomorrow ( Thursday) between noon and 4 pm, so I'll post what happens and I'll also post the new Serial number so we all have an idea of if it's just a batch of those 34 xxxxxx on up serials... I hope I get a 46 or better serial on my new one.... Actually my set here that failed has a serial of 4309XXXX so that isn't very comforting either.... I'm hard on a set, I run it almost 24/7 and I look at it like a light bulb, if you leave a light bulb on all the time it will run longer, it wont have to cool down and heat up , I think the continual cooling and heating of many of those components can cause them to fail early like a light bulb can....
Another issue I've seen talked about with the Vizio's is the remote control. I now have 2 of them, and both are somewhat unresponsive unless you are aimed directly at the receiver. On my new 32 inch LED set, the remote is really bad, I often have to hit the buttons several times to get the menu to do anything. I was considering trying new batteries but I doubt that will fix it. I've read several posts about weak performance of the remotes so I thought I would add my experience with the 2 remotes I have. They do work, however they are not nearly as responsive as other remotes I have.
