I was just speaking with "Yasmine" at Vizio and and remembered your question.

Her answer is "Yes", you need to have a purchase receipt because Vizio needs to know that your set was purchased new rather than used or refurbished in order to support your purchase with their warranty which covers only new sets. This also applies to Square Trade warranties.

About a month ago, to be pro-active in the event of a future problem requiring warranty activity, I faxed my Best Buy receipt to Vizio and Square Trade which is now in my "file" at both places and will save me that step if I need to call on either of them for warranty support.

So I have a odd issue that even Vizio is stumped with. First I'll start with my setup then I'll go into the issue.

Vizio e601i-a3 - TV
Vizio VSB200 - soundbar
Cisco Explorer 8642HDC - DVR through Cox Cable
I also have a Xbox, PS3, and Blu Ray player hooked up as well.

So I purchased this TV 2 weeks ago and brought it home. It is an amazing TV but wouldnt work with my Vizio soundbar. It had some other issues like dead pixels so I ended up returning the TV at the direction of Vizio because they though the digital audio port didnt work. I brought home another one and the same soundbar issue is happening. Everything is hooked up as it should using HDMI and the digital audio cable going from the sound bar to the TV. When I first turn on the Tv and soundbar everything works as it should. But when I change the channel, pause and play, or select a show to watch from the DVR the soundbar emits a quick static sound and stops working. All of the lights are flashing so it thinks it is getting no signal. Went through all of the settings by myself and Vizio and everything is set to what it is supposed to. Now here comes the odd parts. When I play a movie or game through any of my other media devices it works fine. Also when I connect the soundbar directly to the DVR it works perfectly fine. And this all worked perfectly fine with my older Samsung LCD utilizing the same exact setup. The only time there is an issue is when the soundbar is connected to the TV and I'm using the DVR to watch TV.

Has anyone heard of any issues with this TV and certain cable boxes? It seems as though it is having some issue communicating with the DVR. Vizio said they have no idea and Cox Cable of course says there is no issue on their end. Unfortunately I do not have something else to plug for the digital audio but it cannot be the soundbar due to it working with every other device as well as my older TV.

So I'm totally stumped so any help would be fantastic. If I cannot figure this out I will probably have to get another type of TV.

i was having this same issue, its not a yahoo app interference it is something else do you have a computer on at the same time as the tv or anything like that? It could be your router if you have wireless. If you have the option to set your router to auto switch makes it switch form 2.4 ghz to 5 ghz that issue will go away. try turning the tv on first then turning other wireless device on and see which one freezes it up

Well I think mine died today.

After much headscratching and t/sing I think it's dead.

Funny thing is that at first the Apps would still play(Amazon etc) but nothing coming in thru HDMI would display.
Neither cable nor BD would display anything. But the wallpaper from my AVR would still show.

Bypassed the AVR and it still wouldn't display. The internal Amazon app would display aok!

Things went downhill fast however and now the unit doesn't even want to turn on or off reliably(remote OR power button). I hear an occasional crackle/pop sound from the unit down near the switch.

Looks like I'll be calling Amazon.

edit. My return window for Amazon expired 3 weeks ago. Looks like I'll be dealing with Vizio directly. Can anyone shed light on how this is likely to go?

So on Friday evening I decided to return my 40 series serial number to Costco because some annoying light blotches on dark scenes. It was the last day of my 90 day window so that worked out ok.

I ended up replacing it with a 03 serial number. Once I got that all set up, I noticed something that I never noticed before on my previous one so I wanted to confirm if it is normal or an issue. No matter what I'm viewing, I have a black strip that runs around all sides between the picture and the black frame of the tv. Here is what it looks like:

Is this normal? I went into the picture settings and adjusted the vertical and horizontal size to plus 2 which was the point where adjusting it added nothing to the image size. I never noticed it on my previous one and haven't had a chance to run to the store to see if it is present on the display models so figured I'd check with everyone on here.

Just ordered one of these from Amazon. Got it with a 4 year Square Trade warranty. Should be here Monday!

My original 47 is still going strong 62 days in! It's usually on 16ish hours a day, approaching 1k hours. Vizio soundbar going strong as well.

Vizio Soundbar question:

I'm going to pick up a 40" Vizio soundbar later this week (just the bar not the wireless sub). Anyway I believe I need an optical cable to hook it up correct? Are all these optical cables pretty much the same (like HDMI cables) I see you can pick up an optical cable a lot cheaper online than at the store (just like HDMI cables).

Just wondering what everyone else is doing? Also how long does the cable need to be?

Thanks,

Mine died last Thursday. I called Vizio. All went smooth so far. Got confirmation that my new tv will be delivered Monday morning. They even said they set the new one up for me which I'm still kind of skeptical of since i would want the tv to be brought to room temp before powering up. They also will take the defective unit back with them.

This presents an interesting dilemma, doesn't it? rolleyes.gif

As mentioned in a previous post referencing the E601i-A3 Vizio Owner's Manual:

All would depend on how your new set is being transported to your home...heated or un-heated truck?

Then the question arises: How long of a wait is long enough?
This might take an environmental Engineer to determine if two hours is long enough, or perhaps even six hours, depending on local conditions.

In any case, you certainly don't want condensation to form in the housing in order...
"to avoid causing fire, electric shock, or component damage".

Might be worth a call to Vizio to pick their brain about how they handle situations like yours when the Owner's Manual itself is the source of your concern.

Yup, my wife just arranged with Vizio to bring a replacement. 9-10 days they said and they will box up the old one when they bring the new one.
My suggestion is give it a few hours. When I received my replacement I explained that i did not want to turn on the set (Thanks to the heads up posted on this forum) . As long as i signed the waiver that they delivered it in good condition they were good. I did ask though for their phone number in case I ran into a problem before the end of their work day. As for the delivery, the outside temp was in the upper 20's and the truck was loaded the night before. the condensation build up on the screen was visible within seconds after unwrapping the set. After a few hours I was confident that the set was dry. Turned it on briefly to determine no screen fractures or shipping issues, turned it off and several hours later programmed the set the rest of the way. As a side note my new set is an WAP07 in exchange for the defective WAN46.
I want to let it come to room temp but of by some chance i wait and the new unit has display issues or any issues then i am liable since i didn't let them hook it up and test it. This is just from what Vizio told me when i called to get my replacement .

I have the 40" bar with subwoofer. It came with a 4' or so RGB cable. Been working fine.

Anyone else having an issue with audio on ClearQAM channels? There are normally two audio streams on an HD broadcast. One labeled English (1/2) and the other Spanish (2/2). My set keeps defaulting to the Spanish one, which either has Spanish overdubbing or sometimes that addition audio for the blind where it "explains" the scene. It is an easy fix to go into the Tuner menu and flip it, but it is getting highly annoying.

You don't need a TOSLink cable but it's probably preferred. As btswein said it comes with a RCA cable. As far as paying more for the TOSLink? Normally you pay for the name or a better jacket/plugs but that's not really needed. I think I paid around $6 for mine. You need as long as you need. If it's mounted right below the TV 3' will be more than enough.

His question was if he "needed" an optical cable. The answer would be no.

I need an optical cable - dang
I run a single HDMI from the receiver to the Vizio which is all good Except when I tried to do Pandora - duh! don't know why I didn't think of that
After digging through too many boxes of composite cables, component cables, digital coax, speaker wire etc... I can't find a single one
I KNOW I used to have some!!! I probably gave them all away as I am the geek all my friends call whenever they get new gear haha (they just don't read ANY friggin directions!)

My 2wk purchased Vizio ( WAP01) has about 1/8" black border all around. This is only noticed at very close proximity, and is not at all noticeable on normal viewing from 10 feet. It blends right into the black bezel trim. Other than that, this TV is simply an amazing *bargain. Used the Disney WOW calibration BR Disk on Oppo 93 thru 16ft. Redmere-slim HDMI direct to Vizio. The factory defaults are pretty darn good on my set. I only had to change Contrast from 80 to 76. Setup done for viewing in a dark theater-like setting. (It's a lot better than the local Movie houses). I've been running Vizio about 12hrs. uninterrupted daily.

So far, so good!

*Looks better than a 55" LED I bought 3yrs ago for $1200 more than today's Vizio 60"

Now that I've got your attention wink.gif

I was curious if anyone followed through and successfully set up PIP on their E601i-A3?

There were some previous discussions plus a Vizio Setting up PIP how-to (albeit, dated 09/09/2011 - before our model went into production).

If you have PIP on your set, please let us know, step-by-step, exactly how you achieved it.

If not, disregard this post.

This thread is getting pretty hard to go through...

Has anyone been able to get the E601i-A3 to send audio from it's apps out of the ARC supported HDMI input?

I just got an Onkyo TX-NR515 AVR and I've sucessfully setup the CEC function so that the TV remote can control the AVR volume, turn it off and off, etc... but I can't get any audio from the built-in apps no matter what I try.
Yes, I got the Apps to send Audio out the HDMI back to a Yamaha RX-V673. Took me 15 minutes of playing with settings but it does work!

Don't remember all the specifics, but I do know that I had to be using the HDMI #1 input on the TV and a specific HDMI port on the receiver too I think(labeled ARC).

Does the cnet color settings make all your whites have a red/brownish tint?? I don't like it. Does anyone have some good color temp. settings where whites stay white?

Got it sorted. Don't know if it was the firmware update I did on the Onkyo or if it just decided to start working on it's own, either way I'm happy. smile.gif

Vizio PIP

I got PIP working by simply using the remote from my other Vizio TV (VF550XVT). Then I copied my settings to a Harmony remote. Not a lot of help for those with only one Vizio remote, I know. The E601-A3 seems to only have one tuner, so if you are running, say, cable.....your other PIP source will have to be the Vizio "Antenna" input or an external device.

I have been trying to figure this out as well. I have CEC on and RHID on my onkyo 609 on also and still no go. So what did you do? Which port you use? I was starting to give up and go buy a optical cable.....
