Bought a TV during Black Friday last year. I wouldn't say it was gone "within seconds", but if you get it into your shopping cart, even if you think your purchase is safe, check out AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
I didn't get my first TV of choice because: When you put something in your cart on Black Friday, you get a countdown and a message saying something like, "Check out in the next 15 minutes to guarantee this price." And they also set up waiting lists for items, so presumably to some extent they DO control how many people can put the item in their shopping cart relative to how much stock they actually have. However, I put the item in my cart immediately, got that countdown, and my internet hiccuped. By the time I got back on (4 minutes or so), I still had the timer on the item in my cart, but when I tried to check out, it said they were out of stock.
And at that point, there's nothing you can do. If you're shopping Amazon on Black Friday, you'll want to set up 1-Click ordering.
