Vizio E601-A3 Owners Thread - Page 117

OK, so I did some more digging on the settings and there is now a game mode in the menu>settings menu that wasn't there prior to its automatic firmware update. Oddly enough, after retesting for input lag, lag is reduced even further when smoothing is turned on. It's practically 0! I was able to snap a few 0 lags and only a couple 20-30ms with smoothing on. With it off, I was seeing 30-50ms. Now time to try some Call of Duty again...

Can anyone tell me what the latest firmware is for the initial E601i-A3 version? Thank you!
2.0.21

On Saturday 2/2/14 I purchased the VIZIO 60" Class 1080p 120Hz Smooth Motion LED Smart TV E601i-A3 and have many questions about it which the answers I have been trying to find here on the Forum but so far havent been able to find all of them yet but will keep looking!  There is a lot of good info here!

Anyway on to my 1st. post and 1st. question..........

I hooked up my TV straight from the in-coming cable (I use Cox) and hooked up the DVD player etc and then did a channel scan.

Much to my surprise it showed that I had 48 HD channels and X amount of analog channels!  I was pleasantly surprised as my older (6 years) Vizio 50" only received perhaps 5 or 6 HD channels .............the only problem being is that when I flipped thru all the available channels on my Cox plan it only turned up 6 actual channels that were HD and NOT the 48 as the scan had indicated........where are the other 42 it says I am supposed to have??  I dont use a cable box or hdmi or etc so I'm wondering if I need to actually get a HD box from Cox in order to be able to view the missing 42 HD channels??

Another question or two if you dont mind but where do I go in the settings to turn OFF the "Smooth Motion"?

And lastly for the time being anyway..............

Where or under which mode to I use to set my colors for every day TV viewing as there are several choices......

Custom 1, 2 3 or 4

Standard

Calibrated dark

Vivid or etc?

Which one please?

Thanks in advance.  :-)

Sounds like maybe you were picking up QAM channels (local HD channels) but once you switched to the Cox box, you only received what they are giving you for "free". If it is a QAM issue, that will only last for a little while longer because cable operators don't have to offer them anymore and in fact are doing away with QAM.

Hello All.

I bought one of these sets on Saturday (2/1) from Target. I've been trying to find some picture settings to test, but it seems that some settings are missing / have been replaced. Real Cinema Mode is gone. All I have is Smooth Motion Effect. According to an earlier post, TVs that have a Q in the serial number are newer versions. Mine doesn't have a Q, but I seem to have the full Visio Internet Apps interface, and I have the picture presets.

My version number is V1.16.52.0090. I assume that's the firmware version. Is that correct? If so, am I at an in-between firmware version level? Is there a way for force an upgrade?

Thanks!

Interesting. If you are seeing the updated features but not a Q in the S/N, I'm guessing you got a very late 2013 build (I believe the 2013 builds are all identified by a P in the S/N), maybe even week 52? I haven't seen anyone else with that firmware version, but if you have the TV connected to the Internet I would expect it to update to the current V1.25.24 soon. If not, you could always call Vizio to see if they can force the update. Otherwise, I'm not sure what else you can do other than wait.

Just out of curiosity, what does the V1.25.24 firmware have that V1.16.52 seems to be missing?

My Costco has sets with serial number LFTRNWDQ####. Looks like I'll be "upgrading" from my non-A3 A3 model

I'd be interested in seeing what I'm missing as well. I just took a closer look at the user manual, and there are quite a few options that should be there but aren't. I don't have the professional picture menu at all. I've sent in a support request, so hopefully they'll be able to get me up to the latest firmware, or at least get me updated menu options.

So I took the day off to be here when ITI comes to fix my TV. They said they would be here between 8:00am-12:00
I just called to confirm at 9:00am because I haven't heard from anyone. I got a recording saying "our office is now closed, please call back between 6am-6pm"............ Did I mention it was 9:00am already!!!! I was hoping this would smoothly but it's not looking that way!

I suggest you call Vizio (with your Case Number) instead of the number Vizio gave you for ITI (since you can't seem to get through to them). Vizio probably has an alternate, direct line to ITI where they might be able to contact them and find out what's going on and then get back to you with an update. Either way, Vizio needs to know that their customers may not be getting the timely repair support they need from one of their repair providers (ITI).

Here's how the phone call went from the repair company!
Me: hello
Repairman: hi this is ****** from world wide services calling about your repair, what size is this TV.
Me: 60" it's a vizio
RM: oh.....ok. We are not going to be able to repair that today because we have to have two people to take it off the wall, and I'm by myself, so I'm not sure when we will have a second guy.....
Me: well I took the day off, so I can help you take it down. I know it's 60" but it really doesn't weigh that much...
RM: well last year you could but we've updated our company policy so we have to have two people.....for legalities and stuff......so...
Me: ok...I'm off this Thursday, or Friday afternoon around 3:00pm if we can do it then?
RM: no,no... I mean I can't reschedule it because I don't have anybody.....so....
Me: oh, so you don't have anybody period? Not like someone called in sick today, you don't even have a 2nd person at all??
RM: right, right...so I guess you can just call vizio back and let them know...so.....yeah....
Me: alrighty then, thanks for calling
End Call...

So now I'll call Vizio and see what the next step is!!....FUN, FUN!!!

Your tv probably found all the QAM channels that your cable provider offers. Problem is, most of them are encrypted. A cable box or cablecard tuner can access those channels, but your tv cannot. It can only access the channels that are not encrypted, usually the local network channels. When I do a scan on my tv, it breaks down how many channels it found are encrypted, and how many are not. Kind of a tease that your tv doesn't tell you that haha

Amateurs! I bought the reburped one from Walmart and also bought their 4-yr warranty, I hope they are not as clownish as these guys are if and when I need warranty service...

I called around yesterday hoping maybe to find a HD receiver box I could buy outright instead of having to rent one from Cox on a monthly basis to NO avail.......  they simply are not sold in stores anymore!  Apparently the Cable companies have a monopoly on them and dont want anyone else "horning" in on them!

I have been tempted MANY a time to switch to Direct TV or Dish TV but the prices per month are the same as I'm paying now for Cox!

Once upon a time for many years I had Southwestern cable whereas I could subscribe to the lower tier plan and then pay a small premium for ala carte channels but those days are long gone!

What really gets my goat is that out of the 120 channels I get I only watch perhaps 10 channels religiously and the rest can go by the wayside as far as I'm concerned!   If I drop to the lower tier plan I'd save money but then would lose the channels I wanted as they arent included in the package!

Thread moved to owner's thread. There is a forum for HD boxes. You can use a TIVO with Cox of you don't want their box.

Right, this should go to the other forum, but let me just add that you need to make sure whatever HD box you buy works with cablecard which you will have to rent from Cox. In October our Comcast scrambled ALL channels making any non-cablecard DVRs useless. TIVO would be OK but the service cost might make Cox's own DVR seem more palatable.

So I called Vizio and gave them the info. And he said "hang on for just one second".........so he comes back on the line and says "actually it's your responsibility to take it down, so you need to call ITI back after you have the TV off the wall and lying on a flat surface ( by this time I'm sure he's just reading the Q-card!). And they can reschedule to do the repair"
So I say sure that's not a problem but doesn't he need to see the TV' s issues so he will know what to fix!...I mean I think he would have to see the problems I'm talking about. The Vizio rep said " no, he doesn't have to see it he will just replace the boards". So.... Long story short, they are now coming tomorrow at 4:00pm. We shall see what happens!

You might want to call Vizio back and ask to speak with a supervisor. I had the E60-a3 repaired the second week of December (this year) and two men came, took the television off the wall, replaced two parts and put it back on the wall.

Just picked up my new Q model. In addition to all the new menu items, the lip sync delay goes up to five... Yes lip sync issue is still there. The preset calibration modes are pretty good, not far off from the original cnet settings. Best of all, there is minimal flashlighting compared to my first set, which had it real bad in the lower corners. Oddly, the screen seems more reflective than the non-Q I had before. Anyone know if the screen changed in 2014? Or is it just my imagination...

One more thing. The Netflix GUI is totally updated and I can finally stream through the TV in HD. I got 720p, which os much better than the 280p I was getting earlier. Happy!

Where can you find the serial number in the menu?

Under Help, then System Information. At least that's what works on my 2013 model.

Stopped by my local Costco today and noticed they had the floor model E601i-A3 selling for $570.00, tried to get them to adjust my receipt for the set I just bought last thursday, they said "sorry that price only applies to the floor model".

Return what you bought, get the display model, and add warranty to it smile.gif

So ITI is here repairing my TV, and I found this sticker on the back of the panel. Guess that solves that debate

Hello all, I've had the E601i for about a week now, I got this at Costco and it has the Q in the serial #. I like this TV very much except for one annoying fault. When watching channels on Showtime during a still scene the picture will sort of float around, up, down, side to side etc.. Is this normal for this TV, any settings to take care of this? Thanks.
