Marantz SR6007 AV Receiver Owner's Thread - Page 8

Zone 2 is stereo audio only. Try setting the cable/sat box Dolby Digital to OFF.

I originally purchased an Onkyo 818 receiver.  From the first turn on it had the best bass I have ever heard from my system (NHT 2.5i mains and matching center, NHT Super Zeros for the surrounds and front High speakers).  My front speakers are rated to 29Hz., and I believe it.  The opening scene in Two Towers where Gandalf fights the Balrog shook the whole house, it was amazing, but as good as the Onkyo was on movies it was bad on music.  Records, Cd's, SACD's all sounded terrible.  Listener fatigue set in after just one side on vinyl.   http://www.soundandvision.com/node/100296  Here's a review where they discuss the Onkyo sound, this is as I found it.

I called Crutchfield and they cheerily replaced the Onkyo with a Marantz 6007 which they recommended after some discussion about it's merits for music  ( I use the receiver 80/20 music).  They were right, this thing is great for music, bettering my Audible Illusions/Acurus 2 channel system.  But.   I can't seem to get the low bass I want on movies with it.  I don't know if it;s not as powerful (110 watts to 135 for the Onkyo), or it just doesn't have the balls.  When I run audyssey it puts in a 40Hz crossover which I can't seem to by pass.  Even the sales people at Crutchfield's store in Charlottesville weren't sure how to by pass it.  With Audyssey off ít's better but nowhere in the class of the Onkyo.  Am I missing something or do I just need to get a sub to get that gut clinching bass the Onkyo had?

Also if I leave the receiver on for a couple of hours without any signal going through it it freezes up and I have to unplug it to get it to respond, I can't turn it off with the remote or by pushing the on-off button on the receiver.  It also gets very hot, even with no signal.

Hi

Long time listener, first time caller.

Wow I hope this thread is just a case of only the people with problems speaking up, because as a potential SR6007 owner the number of "I have a problem with xxx" posts is a bit worrying. Was expecting a few more "I love this receiver!!" posts.

Anyways, as I said I am thinking of buying the 6007 now that the x008 series are out and there are some good deals about. I just want to confirm a few things re: zone 2.

I presume it is possible to have party mode enabled and have a 5.1 setup playing digital content in the main zone and the same digital content in zone 2. This has been a pretty standard feature in most receivers for a while now.

But does the same logic apply for the HDMI out to zone 2? Will it do a full mirror of the main zone at the same time, similar to using a HDMI splitter?

If so, if I am outputting the HDMI signal to zone 2, am I still able to play the audio to the speakers in zone 2 as well?

Basically all I am after is to have the video and audio from the main zone playing in zone 2 at the same time without having to feed the zone 2 HDMI into another AV receiver for processing.

I love this receiver!! wink.gif

What led me to buy this receiver, was all of the great reviews. And I certainly was not disappointed.
It pleases my audio loving heart in many ways, and it's interface is fairly easy to understand and intuitive. A 3 year warranty as well is confidence inspiring. It seems to have ample amounts of power for my speakers, (Atlantic Technology 2200 7.1, sensitivity rated at 90dB) and it just keeps on pushing! Audyssey is a warm welcome as well, and especially for stereo sources is the DTS Neo or Dolby simulated surround processing.
I've only had one problem, and that was, when I got the receiver, a HDMI output didn't seem to be working, I reset the receiver to factory settings, and voila! Wasn't hard, and Audyssey is a breeze. Just make sure to follow the directions accurately. biggrin.gif
The receiver, seems to be what it should, a great DAC, that does fairly well even against my Oppo BDP-105's DAC, and the power is there, and clarity is there. Airplay is a nice feature, I use that when I go to sleep with my phone at my bedside. Very convenient. Countless inputs, and outputs. And it even charges my iPhone. biggrin.gif
In my opinion, it's a great, great buy for the money, and I'm saying that after 100's of hours of use over a year! I got a good deal from NHT on the internet, they're a Marantz authorized online dealer.
If you have any questions later on if you do choose to buy the receiver, I'd be happy to help if I had any information to offer. I've spent a long time navigating the manual and audio settings. biggrin.gif
By the way, I recommend an Oppo BDP-103 to go with it if you watch movies/concerts or listen to CD's. A player can make a HUGE difference, both in visuals and sound!
If you have any questions, let me know, and I'll try and help any way I can!

However, I do not know about zone 2, I've never used that since I run a 7.1 setup. smile.gif

Hope you find what you're looking for!

You'll have to upgrade to the newer 6008 for the features you desire as the 6007 not only has no Zone 2 (HDMI) output but also cannot pass any digital audio to Zone 2, rather only analog as well as on board sources (eg. Airplay, internet radio, Pandora, etc.). The dual main zone HDMI outputs would output the same video source only (ie. no audio if you still want the audio from the main zone surround speakers).

Received mine today.

What's the meaning of the plastic that covers half the top of the receiver?
Can I remove it?

Grtz
Likely designed to protect you if it should overheat, although not likely to happen if there is sufficient ventilation (at least 3-4" on top). No reason to remove them.
Thxz for the quick response.
Sure I'm going to take it off, ugly and cheap as hell on this 1000$ (launch price) receiver
post #220 of 294

As in post 212 above I can't seem to figure out how to get full range sound from my front full range speakers on DVD's and BR's.  I have the speakers set to large and no sub in the setup, but it still shows a crossover point to set and the lowest is 40Hz. I get nothing on the lowest end of sound.  The Onkyo 818 I returned shook the house with the same speakers.  Is there something I am missing?  I do not want to spend 5-6oo on a sub.

For music this thing seems full range and just keeps sounding better and better, records or CD's, but I have got to figure out how to get that low bass on movies.

As long as the speaker is set to LARGE, the crossover setting only applies if the sub is set to LFE+Main, and even then the full range signal still goes to the FL/FR speakers.
Just grabbed one of these to try out. Owned a SR6005 and felt it was one of the best I ever had for over all sound with my Klipsch speakers.
The porthole is a bit of an adjustment. How can you tell that its outputting DD 5.1, PLII Cinema (for 2.0) and Lossless formats? Im used to being able to see this on the display.
Maybe the easy way is to turn video conversion to ON, but IP scaler to OFF (everything runs thru 103D before getting to SR6007 so I dont need any video processing), then turn the info display, volume display and audio display to ON? It seems like this works as an overlay but cant be used if video conversion is OFF?
Correct. No OSD overlay with Video Converstion set to OFF.
I figured an easy way. Just hitting "Movie" on the remote shows me what the AVR is doing on the porthole. Wish they would have allowed more options for what is shown on the porthole, but it does look nice.

Ive been racking my brain for a few days on how to add more power to my system, and conserve space. Since Im happy with the 6007's performance, and the XT results in my room, I reckon Im just gonna buy the amp and use the Marantz as a pre pro. Its nice Marantz builds this stuff in.

It amazes me the cost of a Marantz Pre/Pro, and how much size they still consume...

Having problems with the internet raido part of my marantz SR6007 at the moment.

I play most of my radio stations via radiomarantz.com/added stations. All the ones I ave manually added.

RadioMarantz.com/added stations are not working on my Marantz Receiver. Keep displaying "no stations found" and keeps freezing and hanging when browsing stations list.

Everything else works fine. I can still access and switch between all the the other inputs without any problems. Any ideas on this?

Is it because the RadioMarantz.com web site is currently down and offline that is causing my vTuner manually added internet radio stations and services not to work correctly?

Ok, so forgive me in advanced, for what is probably an eye roller of a question. But I have a headache trying to figure it all out.

Just ordered the 6007 (500 bucks less than 6008 and didn't see anything I needed in the latest model)

Right now I am running a pioneer elite vsx90. No Audio through HDMI in that model.

Currently my set up is as follows

Xfinity box hdmi to tv input 1, optical to amp input 1

PS3 hdmi to tv input 2, optical to amp input 2

Apple airport express optical to amp input 3

Smart tv audio out currently not hooked up as I am out of digital inputs on the amp (one of the reasons I "need" a new one.

1. I want to continue using my PS3 on one of the TV's inputs and the xfinity on the other. The reason for this is after pro calibration, I found that settings for optimal PS3 viewing are different from the xfinity box. The 6007 has 2 HDMI outputs, and if I am reading correct they put out identical signals, so is there any reason I cant just run 2 HDMI from amp to TV while still getting HDMI audio decoding into amp from sources?

2. I will continue to use my airport express for airplay through one of the optical ports until I can get my wired network ran to the area of the avr and get it connected. That takes one of the 2 optical ports and leaves me nervous because.....

3. I am also new to ARC and dont fully understand it. The only reason I am even thinking of using it is for the RARE times I want audio from one of the smart functions like youtube or smartlink app. Right now I am using it then turning the tv volume up...sucks.

What I am hoping to avoid is running hdmi from xfinity straight to tv then optical to avr. And I think I can, but maybe not?

I have an optical out from TV for smart functions if it really comes down to it but ideally I'd like the only optical to be from the airport....

Thoughts?

Thanks in advanced.

Oh, and also while I want the OSD, I want the AVR to handle NONE of the video processing, just pass the signal on. This is possible, yes?

Yes, video conversion ON, IP scaler OFF.

RadioDenon has been down for several days now; however, is up today. So give it RadioMarantz a try again.

Does anyone know if the 6007 will play Hi Rez 24/192 Flac files using the USB input from a memory stick?

Thanks
The Owner's manual indicates up to 96K.
One thing to note, even with IP Scaler off, when Video Conversion is on, there is some Chroma clipping.

Ive decided to leave it off because I do not want something messing with the video path. Easily seen on this pattern if you cycle on and off, the bottom right hand pattern will darken up greatly.

Do you think the clipping is something that can be healed with a re-cal?

Not that, its clipping it out. It was also noted in reviews of certain Marantz and Denon models. Even seen it first hand with Onkyo. Something about the overlay menu, even when it shouldnt be messing with the video, it is slightly. Keep in mind, Im not sure youd see that in actual content, but Im OCD about that and have since turned off Video Conversion...
I am pretty OCD too so I may not be too happy. We will see tonight once it's all wired up. I mean I got the ZT 60 over the VT just so I knew I had the best (even though I'm pretty positive I wouldn't notice the difference.

Thats what it was. I am guessing it downloads the internet radio list from RadioMarantz every time internet radio is accessed. This means if the web site is down then you yon't be able to access your added stations.

I found that if you add the RadioMarantz stations to favourite memory then you will still be able to access the radio stations from Network > favourites. Even if RadioMarantz is offline.
So I'm all hooked up and pretty happy. One question is when I have it on auto I know (I think) that it picks the most advanced audio deciding possible. But how do I know what that is? The display just says auto. My pioneer would be on auto then when it received a dts signal it would say dts, Dolby HD etc... Is this possible?
