Help!! Do I repair my Denon AVR-4810 or upgrade to a Denon AVR-4520?

I have been a long time lurker on the forum and finally a dilemma that is worthy of some expert advice. I currently have a out of warranty Denon AVR-4810 that I set back to Panurgy to have the NIC card replaced. About a $350 repair. As soon as I got it back there was noticeable distortions so off to New Jersey it when again. Now they are saying the HDMI board is shot. A $650 repair. I love the AVR-4810 but am really excited about several of the new features offered in the AVR-4520.

So here is the dilemma. Is it worth spending another $650 to repair the Denon AVR-4810 or should I bite the bullet and upgrade to the Denon AVR-4520?

First check with your credit card company as some will extend the 2 year warranty by a third year (Amex will do this for sure), otherwise, the jump to the 4520CI primarily upgrades to XT32 which as other former XT owners have noted is a very noticeable upgrade over XT.

Thanks for the info jdsmoothie. I called the credit card company and unfortunately they will not extend my warranty. I am really just trying to deside if the AVR-4810 is worth another $650 in repairs or if I should just use that money to go ahead and upgrade.

Interesting timing on the HDMI board failure......working before an unrelated repair and in need of replacement as soon as the unit comes back !

If you want better audio fidelity, by spending double that amount you can get a Denon 4311CI. Refer to the 4311CI/A100 Owner's thread to get opinions from other 4810CI owners who have made the switch.

That is how it went down. It makes me wonder if there isn't some other underlying problem that caused the boards to fail.
