Looking for a record player

I have a family member that has a good sized record collection. They haven't been used in quite a while. I'd like to get a record player for my HT system so I can play them. I'd also like to be able to hook it up to my PC so I can turn the tracks into FLAC files. I don't think that should be a problem using the audio input jack. My PC sound card is an Auzentech Prelude.

Having said that, what player would you recommend?

Here's a good place to start.

But, seriously, how much do you want to spend?

Also, does your AVR have a phono input? If not, you'll need a phono preamp. (And you might want a separate one anyway for hooking up to the PC.) We'll have to figure that into the budget.

From my experience I'd say look for a good used dual, thorens or technics. I bought several on eBay. Buy from a reliable seller only.
Consider also you might have to pay for a new cartridge. I found the Denon dl 160 to be quite accurate with fairly flat FR. This needs only a phonopreamp for MM (moving Magnet) cartridge.

Those are way out of my price range. I didn't think record players got that expensive. I'm thinking $500 max for the player itself. Maybe up to $1,000. My AVR is a Denon AVR-3808CI. There is a phono input listed on it.
