You will eventually see every post on calibration in this thread of the 3020.

This would come up in the list.

This were just mine using, both the DISNEY WOW Disc and My Own 3D Calibration Disc.

All my calibration settings are being done directly thought the iscan. I have left the projector in cinema mode. Didn't change anything on the epson. It was a bit off but not by much.

Hi All,

I just got a great deal on this projector today ($850 open box). They gave me a 7 day return policy, so I want to make sure my unit is great before I decide to keep it. Can you guys help? A few questions:

1 - When I flip it over, I hear something loose inside the projector. Is this normal?

2 - If I project a white image, and look at the lens from above, there appears to be some scratches inside the lenses. Weird. The image seems fine.

3 - Can you guys try this focus / convergence test? http://www.aaarpinball.com/Miscellaneous/p1080.htm

After trying it, and doing the focus on green, I notice that both green and red look sharp, but blue looks "dim" with the black background. If I switch to a white background, blue looks better, but not as sharp as red / green. Can you have a look and see if you notice the same behavior?

Also, out of the box, looks like I have a lot of convergence issues, but I was able to align it well with the tool provided by Epson.

Thanks! biggrin.gif

Did you get it from an authorized seller.
I believe so. It was a warehouse sale from ncix.com. They said I get the full 2 year warranty, plus a 7 day return. But I just want to make sure it's all good, as I'd prefer to keep it... smile.gif
post #941 of 1055
If you're positive it's an authorized dealer, I'd keep it regardless of whether it has issues or not. Epson will swap it out for you anyhow so don't worry about it..
Umm, I'd prefer not exchange a "almost new" open box from a refurb, but hopefully someone with this proj can do the test above and compare the results.

EPSON DOESNT ALWAYS SEND REFURBISHED UNITS. . I BOUGHT ONE REFURBISHED ONE FROM THEM AND IT WAS ACTUALLY A NEW UNIT.
Hey all, got a refurbished 3020 coming in directly from Epson... I'm pretty excited! I need some help picking up a mount, so opinions are needed.

I've got a triangular shaped room as far as viewing from the screen and I want to wall mount the projector. Given the dimensions of my room, the wall which will mount the projector will be at a 45 degree angle from the screen (as opposed to being on a parallel back wall) but still dead center.

I've seen people mention this peerless mount and it looks like it should work: http://www.amazon.com/Projector-Ceiling-12-8IN-17-3IN-Adjustable-Extension/dp/B00155RH2I/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1385430680&sr=1-5&keywords=projector+wall+mount

Any other options in this price range? (unless this one won't work of course, in case I'll take what I can get)

Thanks ahead of time for any replies.

Thanks, I just spoke with them today and they said they will let me use the 2 year warranty if there is any issues... smile.gif

If anyone that have this projector can have a look at my test above and provide some insight, I'd really appreciate it!

QUESTION FOR U, HOW MANY OF YOU GUYS USE ONLY TWO MOUNTING HOLES INSTEAD OF AlL FOUR? THE MOUNT I BIUGHT ONLY ALLOWS FOR THREE HOLES BUT IT WONT REALLY REACH ALL 3 BECAUSE THE PROJECTOR IS TOO BIG. . CAN I ONLY JUST USE THE TWO FRONT ONES? IT FEELS. PRETTY STURDY. . BUT JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE? ?

Where did you get the refurbished piece from ?

I JUST RAN THEM AND I SEE THE BLUE ABOUT THE SAME AS YOU. I WOULD SAY YOU HAVE A GOOD UNIT AS LONG AS YOUR PICTURE IS FINE. NO PEOJECTOR IS PERFECT AND I PERSONALLY DONT SEE ANY ALIGNMENT ISSUES WITH THE EPSON PATTERN.
YOUR UNIT IS FINE. NOW START LOOKING FOR AN OPPO BLURAY AND CALL IT A DAY.

Hi guys, newbie here, just picked up a 3020 for 1249 from best buy, ATM just quickly set it up shooting on a wall until I can decide what screen I want to get,

So far great except for I've notice some scratches on the lens? It's hard to tell if there inside it outside tried to lightly wipe it but seems there is more to it

I've also notice a dark line about a 1" thick running vertical on the screen, it Dosent seem like the wall would cause this

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, prolly give epson a call tomorrow

Cheers

If there's a scratch on the inside of the lens...It's not suppose to be there. It might actually end up distorting a part of your picture you'd barely notice.
I project a BLACK image in this case. Let your eyes adjust to the screen. Look very carefully. Do you see any colours? Did you see a SPOT, or a BLOTCH.
I might return it.

But THE 1" line. That's a return for sure. Something is wrong. And it could get worse.

Sorry if it sounds like bad news. But the hassle you will have. Will pay off in the long run. I hope.

I love this unit. After many, many returns. The last unit I have is PERFECT. almost 1 year. no issues.

how do i access the service menu on this unit and how do i go about doing the alignment from the service menu?
Last night I was listening to music then switched over to a bluray.i noticed I was getting picture but no sound out of my speakers.
A few minutes later the projector shuts off and the lamp and temperature lights are flashing red.The manual says to unplug and call epson. However, I waited and plugged the unit back and was able to watch two movies without an issue.
This morning I called epson to report it and they said this can happen but if it happens again in pretty short time then they'll swap it.he made it sound like it can happen on some units but it shouldn't happen frequently.if it happens say once in a blue moon like every six months that it's okay but that most people have that happen to them once and then never again. Can anyone give me their personal experience with this issue.?

I have received several PM's about the "hidden menu" in the 3020. You guys must have missed my post about how to access ACTUAL usage data a few pages back:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1433899/official-epson-home-cinema-3020-thread/810#post_23634701

For LCD alignment see this:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1366241/my-epson-3010-projector-just-arrived/1260#post_21893195

It's the same for both the 3010 and 3020.

As always, proceed at your own risk/with caution. Good luck.
I have an issue I've noticed a few times - occasionally, the picture will go to what I call a 'slow motion' look; the audio is still clear, but the motion on the screen has a kind of start/stop look to it. If I pause for a few seconds, then play, it usually returns to normal. I've had this happen quite a bit using a HDD DVR, occasionally watching Netflix over my DVD player, and very seldom watching DVD's.

I have my 3020 set up with a 30' HDMI running through the ceiling. I've wondered if 'pushing' the signal over that distance is a factor. Also, it seems worse proportionate to the resolution. ie, the DVR outputs 720p, it happens quite a bit with that; a regular DVD doesn't do it as often, and I don't think I've noticed it with a BluRay.

Any ideas?

Ok so I still don't comprehend how to align it ..I did everything but the yellow square is not really super sharp to really align it perfect. I mean, I can try to center both colors to blend as perfect as as possible with the yellow square but it's not like the square is super super sharp like an led tv would display it with perfect focus .

If you can, move one of those sources closer and connect it directly to the pj with a short hdmi. This will help you begin to narrow down the problem.

I just picked up a 3020, and although it is a huge improvement over my a Epson 550, the picture just seems soft. Now after watching a 53 " LCD and seeing how sharp it is I am concerned about the image on my projector. Should I expect it to be as sharp (or almost) as sharp as my 53"?

I don't yet have a projector although your question reminds me or when I first got my first lcd tv. I could have sworn something was wrong with it as the picture just seemed so fake almost to sharp of definition, now I'm used to it so it seems great. I wonder if your just used to the way the lcd looks so therefor the projector seems soft. It seems like even the theaters image is softer than my TV.
