A boyhood favorite starring Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn. In fact it was your review on Barabbas
that triggered my memory of Quinn in this movie. Rented the Netflix DVD and watched it recently. Bad quality, looks like it was ported over from the VHS version by Lionsgate. Scratchy sound with crackles and pops. This film needs a remastering from a much better source.
With all of the negatives out of the way I still found the movie entertaining. The opening credits point out that the movie is based
on Homer's Odyssey so don't expect a literal translation. My favorite scenes still include the giant Cyclops (son of Poseidon) and the finale which you aptly described as taking names and kicking butt
Turner Classic Movies (TCM) has an interesting "NOTES" section on their website where they list out quite a bit of trivia on this film.
This film is often credited with kicking off the "sword and sandal" wave of movies that followed including the Hercules films.
