Bingo! Joe's Apartment
The first movie produced by MTV Films. A musical-comedy featuring singing and dancing cockroaches. A short movie at only 77 minutes, made on an $13 million budget it was panned by critics and a failure at the box office. Many people can't get pass the 'ick' element but if you can it's a clever film done in comic book fashion. Underrated and flawed, it requires a certain sense of humor to appreciate.
As one critic put it:
It tells an old-fashioned kind of story: boy meets bugs, boy meets girl, girl meets bugs, girl leaves boy, bugs win back girl, boy finally gets girl. The army of cockroaches that befriends Joe sing for our viewing pleasure — they also cuss, dance, surf, and perform other absurd feats. A silly film altogether, and just plain fun.
Released in the early days of DVD (1999) the movie is only available in the U.S. in full-screen 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The film was actually shot in 1.85:1. The movie is streaming on VUDU but only in standard definition however it is the correct aspect ratio.
