This would have been a good time for Sony to release V2.0 of the VW95. If they added all the new features of the HW50, it would have been a very popular model.

It s all about making money and marketing. If they release the VW95 2.0 now the HW50 AND VW95 sellings will drop like hell. First make money on these two projectors and later release the new VW95.

Are these the PS3 3D glasses that work also with the HW50: http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-3D-Glasses/dp/B00562O8U0
?
Seems that they're not available in Germany.
Are the glasses bigger than the original Sony glasses, is the field of view wider? How is the comfort? I find the original Sony glasses uncomfortable. But I switched to the MV glasses anyways.

Its's interesting to get others opinions on this stuff. I personally prefer the PS3 3D glasses over the Epson glasses (last year's) in a dark environment. I wish Epson had stuck with IR rather than going RF -- it would make a switch to the 6020 that much easier to rationalize since I wouldn't have to purchase any new glasses. Nobody ever talks about the actual end price of these projectors. If you pay a G.S.T., a V.A.T. or a state or a provincial sales tax then every $1,000 could add an extra $70 to $130 to the overall price. Then there's extra glasses that can be expensive, extra warranty and so on. A $2500 purchase can easily stretch to $3,000 and a $5,000 one can actually cost close to $6,000!
Maybe adding a Darbee for $200 to $300 to my 6010 would give me an upgrade for a small amount and take me through to next year. The hard part is reading about all this new stuff and discovering I want it all! If I can just get past the cravings I'll be O.K.

Please excuse my noob question, but it is a sad realization for me if It is true. In the hw50 owners forum it was said that 24p 3D is being displayed using 48Hz per eye meaning a 96 Hz shutter speed. Doesn't the hw50 have 240 Hz panels? Did I misunderstand something? When I saw the demo of a jvc x3, the flicker was clearly there and it was disturbing along with the image being dim. The other thing is 23.976 Hz. What happens to correct timing? I had shutter glass 3D for my GeForce card back in the day, and clearly shutter speed was crucial. Below 60 Hz per eye serious eye fatigue was setting in. Higher frequency would have been even better, but my CRT could do only as much. I was completely in the belief that glasses operate at their highest frequency.

I have a Darbee. I have used it with Sony HW30, JVC RS45, BenQ W7000, and my Viewsonic 8100Pro. I get the cravings thing.
With the Sony the Darbee improved the image substantially to my eye; almost bringing it to the percieved sharpness of the JVC. The image improvement on the RS45 and W7000 was not as dramatic; at mild settings was pleasing to my eye nonetheless. With the Viewsonic 8100 (LCD) it is more or less meh. YMMV

Well, I placed my order up here in Canada for the JVC DLA-X75R(RS56) with my dealer that I have purchased my last three JVC's from. I am currently using a DLA-HD950 that has been a great projector. I got a great deal and if any Canadians are looking for a new JVC projector just PM me for the dealer. He said he would extend the price to anyone from Canada and will not ship to the USA because it is against his dealer agreement. I hope I'm not stepping on any toes since I believe AVScience does not ship these to Canada.
I'm really looking forward to trying the auto calibration with my new Calmam 5 software and C-6 meter I just purchased......also just got the Oppo BDP-105 in today....

So I found out something interesting yesterday. I actually have a JVC dealer near my house! Checking the website didn't reveal any hope here in St. Louis as they listed a company that has been out of business a long time. The listed dealer's place actually looks like an old haunted storefront. Its in that bad of shape. Its pretty clear that JVC isn't very good about updating their list of authorized dealers. I was able to see the X30 that they had on display in both 2D and 3D. I focused most of my viewing on 3D since there is a pretty good consensus about the JVCs abilities in 2D as far as this price bracket is concerned. I only had two animated movies in 3D Bluray, Brave and The Lion King. I realized I loaned Brave to the in-laws which is unfortunate. As far as The Lion King is concerned, yes I could see ghosting. Mostly it wasn't really bothersome to me, but I did notice that when Zazu was flying overhead, the ghosting on him was rather bad. Also, on some of the scenery it was noticeable to me, but I don't think it would distract from the movie viewing experience. I actually quite enjoyed how it looked in 3D. I also watched scenes from The Avengers and Amazing Spider-man. Both looked fantastic, especially Amazing Spider-man. I wasn't able to detect any ghosting as far as live action movies go. I did detect some motion blur, especially on panning scenes but overall I was satisfied with what I saw.
I'm sure a lot of this has been hashed over and over, but as someone shopping for a first projector I don't think that the 3D performance of the current model JVC would drive me completely insane. I'd really like to see the Sony in action. I've seen the HW30 and I think it looks great as well. One thing that REALLY annoyed me about the HW30 is that the glasses would lose sync very easily if I slightly turned my head. This wasn't the case with the IR on the JVC. It held sync the entire time I was watching.
Bottom line, if JVC can make any improvements on Ghosting I think that may be the way to go. Though the Sony is still very tempting. I'm very anxious to see Zombie's thoughts on the new JVC line. I see you're getting an RS-4810 but that may be above my budget. Do you plan on testing the RS-46 as well?

Here is a comment on a potential problem with the Sony:
"Thanks. Just don't know if I should keep sending units back to Sony until I get something with better uniformity. Or if such a unit just doesn't exist. It's a real pain to constantly swap out units. These are huge/heavy boxes.
I wonder if the lenses they're using just aren't ground well & have random pockets of different effective refractive indices, causing patches that have different effective focal lengths?
I should note: the soft patches NOT in the corners of the screen can be focused; they just focus at different planes than other spots (in other words: you can rotate the focus ring and get them in focus).
The upper left & general left side, however, can never be focused perfectly, no matter where you turn the focus ring to.
So those are two separate problems; the latter is a common problem with short focal length lenses. The former problem, i.e. random patches throughout the screen focusing at different planes, just seems strange to me and, in my opinion, really shouldn't be a problem with a $4000 projector."
Are we just too picky on this forum or this a "real" issue?

I take it that this is not a preproduction model but the real deal:)
How close are others being shipped?
I'm may wait out until Zombie tests this one out first. I may loose the pre shipping price but I hope to get a wealth of knowledge from Jason on this and the RS46.

Haha, yup, that's exactly what I'm asking.
The reason I am disconcerted is b/c the Epson 8350, a ~$1000 projector, barely has this problem. I have posted photos in this thread (post #1167), or you can just go to post #3 here to see all the images/comparisons: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1436740/sony-vpl-hw50es-focus-nonuniformity

There's a couple of features I wanted to see on the 56 like the phone app controls and the auto calibration. Plus there is that new wire grid..

speaking of calibration, it looks like the mini 3D's are going to be on sale for black friday. I might have to finally grab one and check out Tom's chromapure auto calibration.
Are you using that new feature of Chromapure?

Turn off the E-shift and you basically have the same projector as the 46, so by reviewing the 4810 two different ways, you will know the performance of the 46 and 4810.

From what I have been told, I think the JVC's will be shipping the same time this year as they did last year. JVC said all along that they would start shipping the end of November and that looks like what is going to happen.

good call, it looks like it's for all the new models:
Other enhancements new for 2013 are:
- New active shutter glasses for 3D viewing use RF rather than IR technology to offer more stable synchronization and extended range while avoiding possible interference with IR-controlled devices;
- Smartphone application that allows remote control of the projectors from a smartphone or tablet ;

Good point. We all have biases and this would help us gain insight into how other enthusiasts see these projectors and their comparative strengths and weaknesses.

Was watching Finding Nemo in 3D last night on my W7000, and I never watch animated movies. I thought to myself, how can 3D get better than this? Maybe I need to watch more animated movies. Can't wait to see 3D on the new JVC RS48, got I,Robot, The Amazing Spiderman, Brave, and Madagascar to watch when it gets here, hopefully in 2 weeks.

I cant wait to hear your comparison to the 48, same with Zombie and anyone else who has these two machines. I dont see ANY way the new JVC will compete overall even if ghosting has been somewhat improved (JVC would really have to work some voodoo for 120hz content to come anywhere close!) Time will tell of course, but I think its very safe to assume the Benq will have less ghosting still, especially for 120hz content and blu ray to some degree as well. The Benq has FI in 3d, JVC definitely wont have that. Flicker.........there is no reason at all to believe the JVC will be any better here vs last year which means those sensitive will still find the 3d viewing uncomfortable from this standpoint. The JVCs certainly wont be any brighter in 3d and maybe not as bright even.
As far as 3d goes, I just dont see any way the new JVCs can compete in light of all this, do you? What am I missing that has you guys optimistic vs a Benq7000?
So the 3d was good on Nemo? Good depth, pop or both?
