Really, you guys are here 'JVC' fretting over a few days when he's had the Mitsu for almost 2 weeks with zero feedback and still some Q's left on the table with the Sony/Epson. confused.gif

I've held HT meets where we have had several different models on hand and many people present and it still took us hours and hours to do level comparisons, he's just one guy and between this thread and likely an excessive number of PM's/day I do not envy his task.

regarding the HC8000, I'm still waiting for the 3D glasses / emitter and it's quite difficult to get this projector into the right position given the limited lens shift. When the glasses arrive, I'll muscle this projector into the right location and leave it there for 2D and 3D info.

sorry guys no hit and run info on the RS46, I have to spend some time getting it set up. Out of the box, this particular sample has some of the best convergence I've seen, it's nearly dead on. Menu fonts are pure white even close up. The lens is also 98% perfect, the pixels are razor sharp from edge to edge, top to bottom on my 142".

I should have time tonight for a quick calibration and some impressions. I'm also waiting for the JVC glasses and RF emitter for the 3D comparisons.

I won't have another Sony until next week for A/B comparisons.


edit: the JVC fan in high lamp is more noticeable than it is on the HW50. It doesn't bother me, but it's hard to believe how quiet the Sony is given it's light output.

Yes, definitely more matte than glossy.

Zombie10k, looking forward to your comparisons this weekend. I'd have to agree with you regarding the white crispness of menu fonts, and edge to edge clarity.

I currently have the JVC RS45. If I was to upgrade right now would you guys choose the Sony HW50es? I'm assuming that the RS46 would be more of a lateral move. I'm not a big 3d guy. I use my projector for everything. Movies, sports, TV viewing.

I had the 45 like you. The ONLY issue I had was lamp issues. I am going to the 46 in hoping that JVC has fixed this problem. I believe they have as it was the first time that I have read that JVC admitted there were lamp problems with the two previous models. Both Mike and Mark both strongly feel the problem has been solved.

BTW. I had the Sony HW30 for a year and really missed the picture of the JVC.

Thanks man. I just got a new bulb for free from jvc. I have about 400 hrs on my rs45 right now and it seemed very dark so I called and they sent me a new bulb. I'm still using the original bulb as I think it's actually ok for now. But now I have a brand new backup bulb which I could include if I sell the RS45. You had a jvc before the Sony hw30?

if you aren't into 3D, I would just keep the RS45 for now. I wouldn't expect much change from 45->46 in 2D PQ.

The HW50 is overall a noticeable improvement over last years HW30. A definite upgrade for me if I still had the HW30.

Yes. HD250

I also use my projector for everything. People raved how the Sony had much better FI and motion. Sorry. I never saw it. No difference to me. Granted I didn't have them together but never noticed any difference with motion on the JVC or Sony.

FWIW I've got my X35 set up and measured the light output (User mode, 6500K, standard colour space, minimum zoom and iris at -15 all other settings at default). I get 94 Lux* which with my screen equals 12-14fL (enough for my taste, with tons to spare). I'll be keeping an eye on the measurements to see how the lamp holds up. For consistancy I will use the same settings as above although I will calibrate the projector once I've got a few hours on it, I'll post back what the Lux is after calibration. (I'm going to run the Chromapure/Lumagen autocal 125 point CMS).

* By comparison I had my HD350 on high lamp, iris at -5 to achieve the same lux reading with 400 hours on that lamp when I checked it last week.

I read some conversation on the Cintenson? with Kraine and it appears his opinion of the JVCs have changed. Most of what I read says the 2D looks great (no surprise) with less noise in the picture (which was a complaint about last years models and less than seen in the HW50), more accurate colors, less flicker in 3D over last years models, and less ghosting. I believe I read that he's going to give it one of his site's rewards this year. It also seems that the E-shift is preferred. However, it was noted that the Sony (and Epson) is a bit brighter as well.

There is going to be some type of shootout there Monday as well. Their French doesn't seem to translate to English very well so it's difficult to pick up on some of the comments.

it looks kind of big since it's going to be hanging off the USB connector at the back of the glasses.

I found an interesting post on the net about these which I thought was really creative and may help you should you decide to keep them... the guy used black heat shrink tubing cut to fit to keep the RF dongles secure.

Oh an FWIW to you... I recv'd the x104 mediums in white (black on the inside), and they fit my head without wearing my prescription glasses (the large fit them great!), but more importantly . . . my wife loves them (ie - fits the females in the house perfectly!). Happy wife... happy hubby. wink.gif I got them both on "The Jungle" for $39.99 ea! Again the fact they come with a nice felt lined plastic case, usb cable, nose bridges and cleaning cloth make these an outstanding value at a quarter of the price of the JVC's!

Have had my rs4810u up for a day. The picture is stunning, but I can definately see some motion blur, watching transformers 3 to demo it

Every projector I've had I've seen motion blur.
I've had or have plasma, LCD, DLP,, Sony and JVC. For sports plasma are the best in my eyes. For movies though there's not a clear winner in my eyes especially fast moving and panning.

We have just received the information that the cause of the 3D rendering problem in the currently shipped X 35 series was found.

The solution is a software update, but that the customer can not be performed. This is no bad faith on the part of JVC but purely for technical reasons. It must be removed for the update of the cover and it takes a specially modified cable.

We will inform our customers who have had their device in the last days, in the course of the day and then inform you to arrange for a pickup.

The software update is the JVC service can perform from the middle of next week.

We will deliver our stock equipment with the new software version also will soon be back.

We are at your disposal for further information.

Zombie, you had a Panasonic 8000U briefly, no? I just tested one, & the 3D was really poor. More ghosting and dimmer than the Sony HW50. But on the plus side there was absolutely on flicker. Which leads me to think that the flicker on the Sony HW50 comes from the lamp pulsing. But, OTOH, I bet the lamp pulsing helps reduce ghosting, and maybe that's why the Sony has considerably less ghosting than the Panasonic? But that makes me curious as to why the Epson has at least as good as or better ghosting than the Sony, according to you. The Epson & Panny use the same panels, no?

Also, FWIW, don't know that I feel the Sony's focus uniformity is that bad when you compare it to the lemon of a Panasonic unit I received:

I haven't seen the 8000, only the 5020. I saw the photos, that does look a bit off.

regarding flicker, maybe Epson is driving the panels differently. Overall though, I think the HW50's 3D BD performance is very good, especially after a calibration through the glasses.
