I don't want to spoil the original thread topic , but just want to share the below.

There is a freeware called 'Priceblink' , when downloaded , it gets added to the browser.
It provides the lowest price available in the market whenever the product of interest is selected/browsed. It also provides price history, reviews etc..... It helped me buying this TV at 498 from Newegg (a month back) , So I am sharing you all.

When your EX440 arrived, did the box just say EX44 on it? That's kind of strange. I got mine from Amazon.

Tried these settings and I find the picture rather bland/bleak looking, at least compared to my Samsung LED.

Of course, there are a bunch of additional parameters/settings that were not mentioned in the post above, so I'm not sure what they should be set at. Maybe that makes a difference?

FYI, my source is a DirecTV H21 receiver connected with an HDMI cable, if that matters.

I hear you pete. This settings are for dark room viewing environment. You can kick backlight a notch or two for brighter settings. I popped in a couple of Blue-Rays and they looked wonderful with these settings but again, thats why you see GeorgeAB here in the forum advising people to do their own calibration and not copy settings as TV sets can vary and also the environment you watch your TV in. I find the process of calibrating very enjoyable and I look forward to do it again. Of course, this was my first attempt at calibrating and my meter is not the most accurate so do tweak the settings a little more to your liking. Let me know if you got better results by tweaking your settings, maybe I'll like them!
Thanks. Unfortunately I do not have any calibration gear, so any tweaks I make would be very arbitrary on my part. I'll keep experimenting, I guess. The same settings look better and more vivid when I connect my laptop via HDMI, so maybe a lot of it has to do with the source signal. Did you calibrate yours using DVD player as the source?

EDIT: For now, I started with your general standard settings, then increased backlighting to 4, increased picture to 90, and changed color temp to Warm 1.

I used my PS3 and AVSHD disk for patterns.

Thanks.

A little bit OT, but how do you like the Spyder3TV probe? I may look into buying a used one to start doing my own calibrations...
The probe is ok, i dont really have any cons other than its not very accurate. But I suggest that you buy something better like Idisplay 3 pro. Or theres a nice entry level package from spectracal for $149, check them out.

Hello everyone. I just recently bought the Sony ex440 led LCD tv from SAMs club. This is my first led LCD tv. I have a question/concern.
Whenever I'm watching a movie in a dark room and there is a dark scene in the movie, I can see like white clouding on the tv screen especially where there are pitch black scenes in a movie or a tv channel. My concern is this that is this white clouding normal for my tv? Should I go back to SAMs and get a replacement new tv? If I don't replace this tv, will this white clouding get worse over time?
Any suggestions people? What should I do I'm really worried since this is my first real tv and I really really like it.
The clouding is unfortunately one of the side effects of LED-lit LCD TVs. Some models exhibit this more than others. You could try exchanging it if it's really bad, but there is no guarantee that the new unit will be any better. One way to reduce visible flashlighting/clouding is to reduce the backlight level in your picture settings. Have you calibrated your set? What is yours set at?
Yes I did calibrate it. My backlight is at 4. I tried going down to 2 for the back light as well but the clouding stays there. And could you please explain to me what flash lighting is?
Clouding wont get worse, you can also try this http://www.ehow.com/how_6516595_fix-spots-lcd-tv-screens.html (Read carefully and do at your own risk) and see if it helps. I'm also in the same predicament as you are, I like the TV but the clouding is very intrusive when watching in a dark room.
Flashlighting is the same as clouding - it looks like someone pointed a flashlight at the screen resulting in white patches in dark scenes.

i bought the bx450 thinking it would have no lag for my ps3 but it did very slightly. it is hard to play black ops 2 because i cant aim direct. the game mode doesnt do anything. the ex440 has motionflow which makes me assume it has to have lag of some sort. mav can you aim perfectly in cod? and are you an avid cod gamer?
I can aim perfectly , no problems there. Also im super sensitive to lag and i can say i have no problems with lag. Yes im an avid gamer and i have tried many TV's, none good with lag like this one. I also have a tube TV and of course it feels more stable and faster in the Tube TV but for an LED TV, its very very good with lag. Im not saying its lag free though.

im an avid cod player and this bx450 i have now barely has lag but its noticeable when i turn. it slightly goes ahead. i lose all my gunfights lol. but yeah so does it feel lagless where you could hipfire perfect? sorry im so paranoid ive been through like 4 tvs w/ lag

Pics of the uniformity on my ex 42ex440. Had to return it, it was bad, and that was calibrated.
Finally was able to snag this tv today from costco for about $530. Great deal, I've slightly calibrated it for blu-ray movies using just my eye haha. It looks pretty good so far, don't really see any lag. I'll try to upload my calibrations as soon as I perfect them. I'm using my ps3 and I'm in a dark room

So this the KDL46BX450, Toshiba 46L5200U or the Panny 50U/UT50? I'd like a 46-47" set but picture quality is more important.

Well the family got me one of these for our new house for Xmas and so far considering the normal tech it uses I'm very impressed with the overall picture. My lil sisters hubby is a Sony fanboy and he bought himself a 50" of some flavor but not a 950 or anything with local dimming and so he got the rest of the family to go in on a smaller and inexpensive version for us at the same time.
I am pretty picky about black level and like that having had a Toshiba 34HFX84 since 2005 which has excellent black levels, just HEAVY and small nowadays.
After playing around with all the various picture settings the black level is surprisingly very good to my eyes and the backlight bleed is barely noticeable watching anything but a black screen so it's a keeper as far as I'm concerned. The color also seems very good and pretty accurate as well and the set seems to have plenty of tweaks in the menu to get it as good as it possibly can.
I'd say it's one of those sets that performs way better then the sum of it's parts and even the off angle viewing is pretty darned good. So I think it's a great bang for buck set if you want a smaller bedroom TV or just don't need a big 50" or bigger set or have a modest budget but still want a pretty good picture for your money.
I'll probably upgrade to a big plasma or local dimming set someday when money picks up but I'm very happy with this set so far and can live with it without feeling like I'm missing a excellent picture.

I got this TV for Christmas and I love it!! Great picture. Here's my calibration settings I did without a calibration DVD like Disney's WOW. I just did this through trial and error flipping through the Vanderbilt vs. NC State game, Holmes on Homes, and my local news channel (WDIV Channel 4 which has a kick as HD signal). Anyway, here are my calibration settings:

Picture Mode: Standard
Backlight: 5
Picture: 90
Brightness: 55
Color: 55
Hue: 0 (should always be zero)
Sharpness: 15
Color Temp: Warm1 (Cool looks too blue to me with the white colors and Neutral doesn't make colors pop as much but can be good if the station's HD signal is super bright, like NBC or CBS sports)
Noise Reduction: OFF
MPEG Noise Reduction: OFF
CineMotion: Auto
All Advanced Settings are OFF

I hope this helps and I hope you're enjoying the TV. If anyone else has their calibration settings, please share.

Yeah, that's pretty bad. Can't blame you for returning it.

Mine seems to be more uniform than yours. Still not perfect, but barely noticeable and much better than my Samsung. However, if I had to do it over, I'd probably get a Panny plasma 720p and avoid this whole edge backlighting mess.
I really wanna check these out but yeah I went with a UT50
post #90 of 110
just got this tv and set it up last night. haven't had a tv for a few years and been watching movie on my DLP 720P project for the last few years. have to say, the picture isn't as great as I though it would be. Colour isn't that rich and same 720P material doesn't look as sharp even after I played around with the setting. Am I just spoiled?
