Is this a good deal for an EPSON 8350

guys - I pulled the plug. I saw an open box EPSON 8350 at a local best buy.

The store manager wanted $1050.

I negotiated and bought it for $799. Also bought 4yr extended warranty for $179. This covers projector AND bulb for 4 years - Full replacement included.

Bulb has 9 hours on it.

Is this a good deal?

Anyone know of any deals on the Epson 8350. Looks like all the sales have ended.. it was 1099 at some places but the prices have increased now. I was looking to pick this up black friday weekend.

I am also looking for a deal on the 8350. Here in Canada it seems like they are going for $1,329 (+15% tax) so I would definitely be interested in any deals for this unit. Maybe even any AVS product specialists can get some kind of deal on these for us?

I am pretty sure the best buy warranty only covers 1 bulb replacement. So keep that in mind.

Hi , thats what I bought mine for at BB two yrs ago , has worked fine no convergence errors or dust blobs( mine is ceiling mounted , maybe that helps ) . Now the only problem is I want to upgrade to the 5020 ! ! !
Hope yours works out as good as mine . Let the grinning begin (:

I purchased my Epson 8350 finally today! After searching the open box inventory for a few best buys in the area i finally found one that had an open box 8350. They had initially wanted 1169 for unit (only 10% off original price) but when I called after I got off work they said they had a one day special and would be able to let it go for $760 before taxes. Needless to say, I purchased the unit. I'll be picking it up this weekend from the store! I'm just debating whether I should purchase the best buy protection plan. they are offering 2 years at $99 which covers one bulb or 4 years for 159. What do you guys suggest? My understanding and what best buy told me is that i am still covered by the epson 2 year manufacturers warranty and it starts today.

this wasnt a demo unit it was one that was returned by the customer and is sealed. geek squad tested it out and confirmed that everything is in working order and no parts are missing. im gonna fire it up this weekend to see how many hours are on it. how do i see that in the settings of the PJ?

So you're saying you got 40% off haggling with Best Buy? That's the first I've heard of that - what was your approach? If this is legit - it could mean that BB is getting incredibly desperate...

I was hoping to get an Open Box stock for $799, but could only get the guy down to $899. I have until 1/24/13 to return it, but i'm really happy with the final price. The bulb has 10 hours on it and it looks perfect.

Funny enough, the manager who I worked with said he only gets his stuff from Open Box stock.

Thanks for all the folks who said we should haggle with BB on their Open Box stuff!

Do any of you guys use the PJ as the only display or are you running the PJ and a television? MY tv went out and I was debating whether or not a PJ would be feasible in my set up.

Thats a great deal! Best I've seen is $899 Refurbed from Epson.com and that bumps the warranty down to 1yr

Inspired by this thread, I tried haggling at my Best Buy. They had an open box 8350 for $1120, the guy would only go as low as $1040 though. Oh well. rolleyes.gif

So I see online that my local Best Buy has an 8350 open box but no price is shown. Apparently you have to go down there. So I phone and ask. The guy says he's not sure if there are any open boxes left but if there are they're going for $750 and is it ok to put me on hold while he checks. Um YES it's ok.

He leaves me on hold for > 10 mins and then tells me that they have no open boxes left but that his boss says I can have a brand new one, never opened for the same price.

All the way down there on the subway I'm sure I'm going to get there and they'll all be laughing...Nope. 45 mins later I'm the proud owner of a brand spanking new Epson. I even insisted on opening the box in the store to make sure it wasn't just a couple of house bricks!

Now I just have to wait for my Sony soundbar to arrive before I can use it.

In my opinion, full price is a good deal on the Epson 8350. Of course I got a deal on mine for $1100 new at Best Buy, but the quality of this projector completely stunned me and my wife. This is an amazing device. Before I purchased, i was boggled between purchasing a 60" samsung LED tv or the Epson 8350 (took me a month to decide). By far one of the best decisions i've ever made on an electronic device. So to me, the $1450 full list sticker is still a great deal!!!

got a friend that manages an appliance store in rochester hills, i don't think he'll give out the same price to everyone but he will beat any price that you can find, but when i went to bestbuy for the ceiling mount , they told me that they will match the price, asked if it had to be written or advertised and the sales rep said no, so you might be able to get a price match at bestbuy. and also if you need a ceiling mount, i was able to get the Sanus - Universal Ceiling Mount for Front Projectors from best buy with a amazon price match of $64.99+tax

Wow, Best Buy's quoted "going price" for an open-box Epson 8350 was $750? eek.gif I've wanted one of these since they came out well over 2 years ago. The price of these bottomed out a year ago and have actually crept back up. Very annoying. Had the price continued on it's expected path I would probably own one by now.

Just wondering how the extended warranty thing plays out. If I went with the 4-year BB extended warranty, could I make a bulb claim with Epson within the first two years, then rely on BB to cover that last two years? In other words, could I get two bulb replacements in that four years? Note, I'm not trying to "take" anybody here, just trying to plan the total cost of ownership.

I'm going to go pester my local Best Buy now, thanks!

i bought my 8350 on craigslist. guy needed to take his truck out of impound and i walked away with it for 300.00. the scariest thing was that the bulb was burned out. so i called EPSON and they replaced my bulb under warranty. this is why I love EPSON. I want the 5020ub

Thats true... but for the first 24 months epson will replace the bulb. So what you really get is 1 bulb in years 3-5, plus the extra 3 years warranty after the mfr. warranty expires. (If I'd have bought my 8100 at BBY instead of B&Hphoto 2 1/2 yrs ago :/....)

Additionally, the way best buy prices their service plans is based on the final price you pay on the projector. Therefore, if you find a really good display/open box deal or a very good sale, the cost of the policy is also cheaper. The cheapest source I found for replacement epson bulbs is B&H at ~$250, so if you know you'll put enough hours on it in years 3-5 to use a bulb, it is a good deal to buy their plan. On the other hand if you only use the projector 1-2hrs per week like 90% of their customers..... not so great a deal (at 2hrs a week it would take 40 years to get 4000hrs on the bulb )

Exactly! And.. the stores' employees can't handle anything related to projectors so you just call in to the service when the lamp's bad and they send it out.

frown.gif one of my local best buys shows 3 8350's open-box but they want $1030! ... and last november I had a new 8350 ordered for store pickup at $999 at BBY that I cancelled and instead pickup up the 3010. Hopefully I can just fix my 8100 for now instead.

so I read this thread and walked into my local Best Buy just now they had the 8350 open box for 1120. I ask the employee what the best price he can do on it and he asked me well what are you thinking. Isaid well if you can do it for 850 Ill take it. He says oh no, no way that would be too far under. I told him to ask the manager what the best deal would be. He called the manager and said sorry we can only go another 100 dollars off but we can make it an even 1000. I said no thanks and walked out of the store

Best Buy open box/clearance markdowns WILL vary by store. You're probably a month or so late for the best BBY projector clearance deals. The 3010 could be had for <$900 last month.
