Direct TV RF remote question

I am helping a friend put set up a surround sound (HTIB) and DVD/BluRay player but all his wires feed into a closet adjacent to his living room (where his TV/Speakers will be). I am thinking of options for him for controlling his receiver/DVD player. His satellite box is currently in that closet and is controlled via RF remote (supplied by Direct TV, thus, not a Harmony RF remote).

Does anyone here know if an RF extender will work with the Direct TV RF remote? I'm trying to avoid purchasing a Harmony RF remote and RF extender if possible....but will if I need to.

Not sure an IR option is feasible at this point.

Ok, so help me out here.

If the TV and Satellite receiver are in separate rooms, they will still work if in "IR mode"??

Just trying to figure this out...I'm interested in how this will be set up.

I saw the video on amazon...and that may very well be the low cost solution to my problem.
