Advice on Polk monitor 60 and Polk cs2 Center

I am looking at a pair of Polk Monitor 60s (not series II I think) and a center channel CS2 for about $200 from craigsist. But i am not sure the three are properly paired. Would they be ok together? Any help would be appreciated.

Also, what would you recommend for pairing in a 5.1 septup? Would you go with the Monitor 40 bookshelves? Or the 30s?

I am inking of getting either a Denon 1913 or 2113 for a receiver.

The CS2 is the Monitor Series large center channel speaker and definitely goes with the Monitor 60 or Monitor 70 towers. You got the right one. As far a surround speakers get the Monitor 40's if you have room. If not or you want a wall mountable speaker then get the Monitor 30.

Thanks. Here is where i would mount them. I put 2x6 blocking behind the drywall when i finished the basement.

If you're gonna wall mouth get the Monitor 30's.

As far as subwoofers, 2 questions.

1. How big is the room? Looks like you have high ceilings.
2. How much are you willng to spend?

Sorry for the delay responding! Getting hit with some weather recently!

The room is roughly 12 x 20 with the seating area in the first 12 feet of the 20. The back 8 feet is really a walk way. Now, the room is L shaped and goes back quite a bit. but the seating and viewing area is then 12x12.

The ceilings are 8 feet high.

I would like to keep the sub around $200.

Go with the M40s for surround duty. If you can. They are a little tall. Otherwise, get the M30s. For a sub, see if you can get the Polk 505 on sale. That is a decent entry level sub.
The Denons are great. SQ will be the same across the board. Get the one with features you want.

My 2 cents are that monitor 30's are fine as surrounds, they go down to 55hz and you'll most likely be crossing them over at 80 anyway so the 40's won't add much. As far as a sub if you want to stay under 200 the PSW505 should be on sale for 179.99 pretty soon at Newegg when they do their Black Friday sales, the 30's should be very cheap at that point too. And yes it will all sound good together as they are from the same series.

To throw another handful of sand in the vasaline, if you plan on listening to multi channel music, the M40s will do a little better job considering your room size. Just more driver surface area.

Not to hijack the thread, this is a perfect spot for my question. I have M40s for mains with a CS20 center and M30s for surrounds (5.1), would there be a benefit of pushing the speakers back (M40s as sid surround and M30s as rear surround) and making M60s or M70s the mains? I'm been considering this as a possible upgrade. My only concern is the floor standers would have to bee off the ground.

For a sub, if you're a DIY kind of person, I highly recommend Bill Fitzmaurice's Tuba HT. They're quite large, but unbeatable in value.

I would also take a look at the BIC F-12 sub. I own one and it is a great choice for $200.

As for the PSW505 previously mentioned in this thread, it's a good sub, too, but no guarantee it will be on sale for $180.

If they need to be off the floor, just go with another pair of M40s. With the frequencies below 80Hz rolled off to a sub, the lower range of the towers would be wasted anyway.

Pretty much any name brand AVR will work fine: Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha, Pioneer.
