http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/28/jj-abrams-star-wars-release-date_n_2566361.html?utm_hp_ref=entertainment

According to THR (via HuffPost), the 2015 release date for the now Abrams-helmed Ep VII may not be quite etched in stone with a lightsaber.....

Episode VII is set for release in 2015, but sources say Abrams has not committed to that release date, meaning the date could be changed if the development process requires it.

Abrams has a lot on his plate. His Star Trek Into Darkness is set for release in May, and sources say he is committed to producing for Paramount the next installments of the Mission Impossible and Star Trek franchises, among others. He's also a prolific TV producer with several pilots in contention for the fall season.

I find it difficult to believe Disney would sign him up without a firm commitment on a release date....
They just spent 4 billion bucks and need a ROI.

It's the ulitmate geek fantasy (besides makin' it with Princess Leia in her slave costume). If he's offered the next Bond film, I'll plotz.

I'm sure the uptick in both the amount & sale of SW themed merchandise just @ the Disney parks alone will help the shareholders cope until showtime.

Although Abrams has made some good movies, he hasn't made any great ones.
And SW needs a GREAT episode going forward.

It's too bad Disney didn't go with someone with more imagination....like this dude:

SW only needs a good one after the prequels. Recharge the base. Also "if" and "GDT" are in a lot of sentences.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The force isn't with the 3-D versions of the "Star Wars" prequels.

Lucasfilm said in a statement Monday that it's postponing the scheduled 3-D releases of "Star Wars: Episode II — Attack Of The Clones" and "Episode III — Revenge of the Sith" this fall to instead focus its efforts on "Star Wars: Episode VII."

The Walt Disney Co. confirmed Friday that J.J. Abrams, creator of the TV series "Lost" and director of 2009's "Star Trek" movie, will direct the seventh installment of the franchise, set for a 2014 release.

Disney bought "Star Wars" maker Lucasfilm last month for $4.06 billion.

"Episode I — The Phantom Menace" was released in 3-D last February and earned $22.4 million domestically its opening weekend.

The original prequels were released from 1999 to 2005.

Oh man, Del Toro would scare the crap out of the kids with all his weirdness but that would be interesting.

You'd bite your tongue if you saw my 2 1/2 year old son and 5 year old daughter completely captivated this past weekend watching Empire Strikes Back. They watched ROTJ on Sunday and then wanted to watch ESB again! Even let them play with my beatup old 1979 Millennium Falcon, you know the old diecase Hasbro stuff that a long time ago were made in the good ol US of A cool.gif

There is something about SW, at least the originals that can be timeless if it's passed down. My kids love it but are a bit young for the whole thing, I skip over the Wampa and Rancor, etc. and no way are the watching ROTS!

To circle back, I have to say I was very excited at the thought that my kids will get to be a part of the opening night energy after dad stood in line for 16 hours and see all the nerds dressed up and cheering. Wait, this is going to be weird, there will be no 20th Century Fox drum up! eek.gif

Frankly, and I work in film music, I'm not sure I'd want that gig! Talk about high expectations!!

Something tells me though that the next films (except for the studio opening logo, however the Lucasfilm logo will still be there) will open in the exact same way as the 6 previous entries. And they'll use John Williams's theme as well. Throughout the film though, things will be different that's for sure, but I'm sure J.J likes the original material too much to open the film differently.

I will NEVER EVER forget seeing Ep.4 at Grauman's Chinese theater during its opening week.
The atmosphere was unreal...to say the least.smile.gif

But do I automatically think it's gonna suck? No. I am cautiously optimistic. Lawrence Kasdan's involvement, whatever it may be, will be a plus.

See what I meant?!?! There will be no Fox Fanfare, as that studio will have zero to do with the film. Instead there will probably be Disney, Bad Robot & Lucasfilm logos with some sort of audio prior to that moment of silence when the "A long time ago.." card comes up. Now, there is no doubt that the SW Main Theme & the opening crawl will be the same, but still might be a little jarring on first viewing.

oink, I'm going to assume you either do not have kids yourself, or spend much time around them in general these days. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Or for that matter spent any time in the Star Tours line @ Disneyland recently.

While kids of today have far more distractions than those of my generation did back in the late 70s/early 80s, SW is still a fairly hot property with modern children. Obviously their parents play a big role in that, but as well The Clone Wars animated series is rather popular. Both of my kids, all of my nieces/nephews & the kids of friends all know SW and own at least a few - in some cases A LOT - of SW toys & swag. And now with the franchise under the control of Disney, expect that awareness among kids to increase exponentially.

Of course, John Williams is still working. Up for an Oscar this year for his Lincoln score.

Williams is 80 - depending on his health, he could very well still be actively scoring films by the time JJ & Mickey Mouse need Ep VII music.

I'm thinking they will either hire Williams (at least for Ep VII) or the composer that IS hired will be directed by Abrams to "do it like John Williiams would". I've mentioned here already that it's my belief that with Abrams being a 1st generation SW fan, there will be no drastic "un-Star Wars" elements to his film. JJ will pay respect - and while he may only say it under his breath, also knows that those fans who hated on the prequels need to be won back.

This! Star Tours is awesome and now they have all these Jedi training things for kids, building your own lightsaber, they get to go up on stage and be trained to dual with Vader and Maul, it's way cool!

I think after the last 3 films a breath of fresh air from a purest might be just what the franchise needs. There was a lot to like with TPM and I loved ROTS but ATOC was crap IMO.
