But never underestimate Lucas' ability to go for the mundane. Still, I'm not one ot the haters, rather, one of the exasperateders. He needs to connect the next generation to the people in the first trilogy, and after that maybe he would be willing to gracefully bow out and leave the rest to new filmmakers.

...or not
I don't think GL is creating a story for Disney to film.
It's more likely Disney will be doing most of the imagining and Lucas, presumably, will sign-off on the finished script.
It would be the prudent thing to do....
However, it's just speculation on my part.

Interesting article about the Lucasfilm acquisition:

http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-03-07/how-disney-bought-lucasfilm-and-its-plans-for-star-wars

It sounds like Lucas has basically dictated exactly what he wants the new movies to be, and Disney is obligated to follow his wishes.

I am interested in the next gen of the Skywalker family, not Yoda, Boba Fett or other characters from long ago and who are all dead by the end of Ep. 6.
Remember, the next SW movie has been officially identified as Ep. 7, meaning post Ep. 6.
New adventures for new characters with new possibilities in a new universe....
Gee, I hope Disney doesn't f_ck that up by doing something silly.rolleyes.gif

If they go in this direction we can claim Co-Collaboration! biggrin.gif

While I personally do have an interest in SOME exploration of the other characters, I look at as more along the lines of spinoffs. But I'm in total agreement that there needs to be a proper transition from Eps 6-7 but move the story along with next gen Skywalkers.

And IMO, please, please, please....temper the "cutesy" stuff. In hindsight, one of the best things about Star Wars was that it has (or had until Lucas tweaked it) a less is more flair. The story was pretty simple, the locations were simple and there were relatively few characters. I felt the new movies kind of got cluttered with too much to look at or something, starting with all of the characters. And the Jawas were interesting and cool. Yoda was cool. Ewoks, Jar Jar...now it's clearly trying to "make it cute" rather than letting the story develop. Just my opinion. I realize there is a huge fan base or prospective fan base that's younger but I'd like to see it portrayed with a little more edge.

That's a great article! Both from the standpoint of how the deal came together and how Lucas was working with the "final trilogy or Postquel...lol) all along. I always kind of had this feeling that Star Wars stopped in terms of the movies but reading that...you kind of heard Vader's breathing faintly in the background. wink.gif

I think the lesson was learned after Jar Jar.
I have went into this before about why Ewoks and Jar Jar were brought into the franchise, so I won't bore everyone with that again.wink.gif

Ewoks made an important plot point. Jar jar did not.

True, but Ewoks were cute teddy bears (which they didn't have to be) designed for kid's merchandising....and it worked.wink.gif

I still think Lucasfilm missed a tshirt merchandising opportunity with a picture of an ewok about to light Han and Luke on fire on it and a caption that read "Rebel scum...It's what's for dinner!"

Here's an interesting article with an opinion from Joss Whedon about the direction of characters. Enjoy.

I hope this means the rumors about Michelle tell you what to eat Obama play Lando's wife are false... they may need vomit bags in the theater for that.

Talk about unholy unions. No wonder he sold out Han to Vader. He was just real hungry.

Great news, Star Wars fans! Harrison Ford is ready to make the jump to hyperspace one more time.

Coming about as close as he can to a confirmation before Lucasfilm puts out the official word, the 70-year-old actor has dropped his strongest hints yet that he's coming back to the franchise to reprise his iconic swashbuckling role as Han Solo.

"I think it's almost true; I'm looking forward to it," Ford told Chicago's WGN 9 . "It's not in the bag yet, but I think it's happening."

Ford is the last of the original trilogy's triumvirate of stars to suggest he's booked for Star Wars: Episode VII, following in the footsteps of costars Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, who both indicated they've been in talks to return as their respective characters, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker (though Carrie's rep later said "she was joking").

For his part, George Lucas pretty much let the cat out of the bag already earlier this month when he told Bloomberg Businessweek that even before he sold Lucasfilm to Disney for $4 billion last October, "we had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or were pretty much in final stages of negotiation."

No word if or when Lucasfilm plans to make a formal announcement. But here's hoping Harrison will be outrunning some more Imperial starships—and soon!

I would think a more age appropriate choice, as well as providing the "Mahogany" reunion w/ Billy Dee I know everyone has been hoping for, would be Diana Ross. biggrin.gif The hair styles & fashion alone they could put on Ms Ross could be very sci-fi indeed.
