A mere hour after the sale of LucasFilm to Disney for $4.4 billion has been announced, it's already clear that this day will live in infamy. 

 

The internet's immediate reactions to this surprising bit of news have been intense and passionate. Many have been too good not to share, so here are a few of our favorites so far:

Based on the quality of the other Disney restorations, I am very optimistic. My greatest hope is that when they announce the release of the originals, Lucas storms into the boardroom and yells "You said you'd only release the special editions from now on," and Iger hisses "I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further."

I predict that Disney will hold on to the Original Trilogy blu-ray set to coincide with the release of Episode 7 in 2015. Not much of a risk, but I'd be glad to see it sooner

This seems like a good thing to me.

If you look what they did the the Avengers franchise it looks like they know how to not ruin it by 'Disneyfying' it.

If you look at what Lucas has done to Star Wars, it doesn't seem like it could get much worse, although that's probably my age showing with liking IV, V, & VI and not liking I, II, & III.

I wasn't even born yet when IV was originally released, and hated the new trilogy. I don't think its your age. Its my hope that they get Joss Whedon to direct a trilogy based on the "Admiral Thrawn" trilogy set after ROTJ. Easily my favorite Star Wars books.

They must have made Lucas an offered he'd better not refuse! He did not even look happy that he sold it, so something else must be up. I though that Lucas was already worth about $4 billion? Star Wars about companies/people like Disney and the new world order but set in space and selling your soul to the devil. Now Lucas has done it. The only good thing is that we get a movie after Jedi (even though Lucas hinted at it in the past) and the quality should be better since Lucas won't direct. Three sequels and film every three years? That sounds like too much Star Wars!

I don't understand why everyone always assumes that the stories will be based on the books, they will be what Lucas had in mind. I would have thought that Lucasfilm would have sold for at least double the price.

Way too many fanantics thinking this is going to be a Thrawn trilogy. The problem with that series was that it took place very soon after Jedi with the 3 central characters from the OT. Unless the parts are recast and Lucas' supposed treatment was lazily put together, I seriously doubt the Thrawn thing. I would expect the new trilogy to have 20 to 40 years between the end of Jedi and the beginning of the new one.

But as I suspect there will be plenty of fanantics that find plenty of reasons to hate the 'Disney' films as much as they hated the prequels.
