A mere hour after the sale of LucasFilm to Disney for $4.4 billion has been announced, it's already clear that this day will live in infamy.
The internet's immediate reactions to this surprising bit of news have been intense and passionate. Many have been too good not to share, so here are a few of our favorites so far:
Twitter:
@RichIGN:
Remember how a couple years back we all thought Disney would ruin Marvel? Turned out pretty well.
@SeanTheBaptiste:
Best decision Disney could make- rerelease the originals without all that f**king horsesh*t in them.
@JonPaula:
I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of nerds suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.
@Oddernod:
Disney just bought Star Wars, ILM, Skywalker Sound, LucasArts, and Indiana Jones for half the price of Pixar. That's a steal.
Darth Vader @DepressedDarth:
This means my daughter will finally get to be a Disney princess.
@ArrogantDemon:
Make Yoda angry you have, Yoda you wont like being angry

@parislemon:
Can't wait for Star Wars on Ice.

devotiondoubt:
Oh they will re-release it [the original unaltered trilogy] alright. Then not release it for 12 years. Then re-release it again. Then not release it for...
Mike Lang:
That's a lot to pay for just one more princess!
KMFDMvsEnya:
Oh yes with the newly installed Sith Lord Mickey over the Lucasfilms Empire what could possibly go wrong?

Completely and utterly trustworthy, simply look into those eyes.

Based on the quality of the other Disney restorations, I am very optimistic. My greatest hope is that when they announce the release of the originals, Lucas storms into the boardroom and yells "You said you'd only release the special editions from now on," and Iger hisses "I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further."
