VSX-1122 handshaking issue with directv hd dvr......

I've had the VSX-1122 for a week and I love it but it seems to have problems about 50% of the time with the screen changing color to green or pinkish purple now idk if this happens with this model and directv boxes or I got bad unit. Or should I get another brand like yamaha,hk or denon. I like the advanced MCAAC so I'm not sure I got it for a price match for 470.00 and bought the 4 year protection. Unless there's a better reciever. Thanks

The first thing to do is to replace the HDMI cable connecting the DTV box to the AVR, otherwise, the work around is to connect the box HDMI directly to the TV with optical from the box to the AVR for surround sound. HDMI handshaking issues with cable/sat boxes are common with all brands of AVRs.

I had that happen several times with my DTV boxes. It was the HDMI cable twice and the box once. Like JD said, change the cable and see. If that's not it swap another DTV box in and check. It's very unlikely to be the AVR IMO.

Hooked it directly into the tv works fine that sucks I gotta do it that way though.

You're much better served with the box connected directly to the TV as even if it did work connected to the AVR, the DTV firmware updates can often cause HDMI handshaking issues as well. Installers will generally suggest bypassing the AVR as well.
