The new 2012 PSN store

Click here for the details and a demo video. The app for the new store is available for download right now, but the store is down for some people (including me).

Either the store is still down or...the new store kinda sucks.

Ya. Getting used to the store.

It's slow, confusing, awkward and downloading anything takes too many steps.
It's a rip off of the Xbox marketplace without the fluidity.
Hate it.

It sucks. The old one was fine. There was no need to change it. And what's with the black? Yeah, that's inviting.

I haven't tried the new PSN store yet but I don't see much fluidity in the XBL Marketplace.

The old PSN store wasn't very good either.

I'm with number1laing on this one. The XBL Marketplace is far from "fluid." It's a mess of mismatched and awkwardly embedded menus. No console has figured out a user-friendly storefront UI. They all suck.

I don't mind it, except the amount of clicks it takes to purchase something.

That's the opposite of fluidity. smile.gif

I really, really don't like the Xbox dash design. It just is confusing to navigate. Now when I want to get to something I go into the search box and type it in with my chatpad - maybe that's what MS wants you to do. But I never had to do that until this new design came out.

Finally got the store to work. Heh, there was a poison pill built into the new file that forces you to use automatic date/time settings or it won't load. I've always had mine set four years ahead so that the scrolling ad banner in the upper right of the XMB would be disabled, but I guess I'll have to stop using that trick.

Overall, I liked the snappiness of the original store. It always came up in seconds, and I was comfortable looking for stuff I knew I wanted to check out. This new one takes awhile to load as many have noted, and there is some lag as you wander about the store.

However, I do like the filter options it now has, though they should've allowed us to use multiple criteria simultaneously, i.e., "show only new+PS3 releases" instead of one or the other). The search box is infinitely more accurate.

Design wise it looks decent enough, icons aren't too large or too small for instance. Finally, I wish they kept the red PS shopping bag icon for stuff you already purchased while browsing. The plain text in its place forces you to focus on it instead of being able to merely glancing at it.

I just noticed today that you can't navigate the new store with a Move controller though I'm pretty sure the Move worked in the old store.

It seems to work/load a little faster to me, but overall the UI is pretty sucky - it looks over designed, as if way too many marketing types were involved. Mark me down as not thrilled but not horrified either, its useable, guess I'll get used to it over time.

I actually like it, the other version seemed unnecessarily cluttered. They cleaned up a bit. also it loads faster for me

Okay tried it, I like it a lot. Big improvement over both old PSN and XBLA.

It's clearly designed by the team that made the Video Unlimited app that came out last September; they've expanded it to cover the game side of the store instead of just video. Last year, JMII posted a link to a post by one of the developers, describing the application framework: http://www.satine.org/archives/2011/09/27/playstation-web-app/

Unless I'm missing it, there used to be an option in the old store to search by game title.

Where is that in the new store?
At the top of the screen you should see a menu bar with buttons labeled Store, Search, and Cart. Hit triangle to highlight the bar, select Search and hit X.

Way too many drill downs to actually do stuff. Too many clicks to buy something. Nothing was wrong with the second version of the store. This is better than the original PSN store but not better than the just replaced version. Blah.

Thanks, that did it (kinda).

Problem is I was looking for a demo of a certain game. Granted, I knew said demo existed, so I figure it would be faster to look under the actual game instead of looking through each demo. Problem is demos are no longer included under the game title heading like they used to be.

If I didn't already know there was a demo available for this game, I would think one didn't exist since it doesn't appear within the game's directory like it should.

The old store was more efficient, but I guess this one is more flashy. I wish they would give us an option.

How do you find the deals ? I mean the temporary price drops like Hollywood Squares this week ?

I miss that "DEALS" icon.
Games -> Hot on PS3 -> Weekly Deals.
Was the PS+ sale for Portal 2 a weekly deal? I travel a lot, got back home yesterday and it's not on sale for + subscribers any longer.

I never use the ps store that much. But, I don't like the new one.
