Absolutely brand new to the speaker game, requesting lots of assistance!

Hello all,

I'm going to be moving apartments shortly and would very much like to purchase a solid set of speakers/surround sound system. I don't have any type of receiver whatsoever, so I am starting from scratch. I'm not partial to standalone speakers or satellite setups, I just want to get the most bang for my buck....which comes to my budget. I would like to not spend no more than say ~800, receiver included. I've researched a couple of setups such as

Klipsch HD 1000--

Paired with Onkyo 607 receiver.

and this seems to be a solid choice. I'm really interested in a relatively powerful sub for the price range. I'll likely be using this for about 60% music and maybe 40% tv/movie watching. ANY help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Are you moving to an apartment? If so, is this location going to be permanent? When advising customers, I often tell people to buy the best that they can afford now for a 2.1 or 3.1 setup and then just buy some cheapo rears to complete it. Sometimes in apartments a pair of towers is enough base to even skip the subwoofer. My personal recommendation would be a pair of decent towers and an amp and then slowly buy the rest as you can afford it. Those Klipsch's are not very impressive in my opinon. Denon and Boston make a much nicer setup that comes with an amp http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=denon%20boston&sprefix=denon+bo%2Caps&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Adenon%20boston for the price it is hard to beat, and the sub is very very tight. In my opinion that is about the last stop on the train before things start getting real and you need to start thinking long term with a setup. Also look used, for example I have a pair of Polk Audio TSI 300 towers, CS10 Center, Yamaha 5950 7.1 Amp, Klipsch S2 rears and I am trying to sell the combo now for around 700, and something like that would blow those satelite systems out of the water.

For something cheap, solid, and highly regarded, I'd recommend something from Pioneer speakers. Pioneer AVR + Pioneer speakers + Pioneer Subwoofer.
